Just came back from Costco. Had to get glasses for MIL (she’d gotten them there before so her records were there, she’s stuck in a nursing home for rehab for a broken hip). Prices were very good, and the second pair were $25 off.

Also bought a 12 pack of 4 chicken thighs per pack, deboned. That’s a dozen chicken and rice meals for my family! Also found gyro meatballs with some sauce, and some tiny pasta bags filled with lemon chicken. I’d bought those filled with Italian sausage before and they were yummy. I had coupons for a sale that started today but did not need anything that was discounted so I did not indulge.

I re-checked hotel rates in Florida for spring break. The Marriott, where we’re booked, dropped by $90/night. It’s now $200 less per night, than last year at the same time.

Just picked up 2 pairs of glasses at Costco. Also got the $25 additional discount. It was a pleasure, easy, less frustration than my last visit to another eyeglass chain. I never spent less on one visit. I am new very pleased customer. The only thing that I am not used to is that we needed to wait 10-12 days for pick up from our Costco. This was fine, but it would never work for an emergency situation.

Thanks for tip about Macy’s. Ran over lunch break, got the $34 sweater, and then some more off cuz wearing red (underwear< but only had to show tip).

Weird–the red discount in HI ended on Sunday–glad it’s still on in your area. I love Costco, but with just two of us in the house, it doesn’t make as much sense to buy too much at one time.

Squids was yesterday’s woot deal. I forgot to check until late last night and they were sold out! Today’s deal is Dirt Devil Kurv Cordless Vacuum Cleaner for $20 plus $5 shipping…

Northeastmom, another benefit from Costco’s eyeglass services is that they will replace lenses even from glasses that you bought elsewhere for much less than you will pay in most places . I have an old pair of glasses that I love. They fit me just right, look presentable (a problem for me because I look terrible in most glasses). I paid a lot for them at Lenscrafters some years ago even with their sale and coupons but was very happy because it was what I wanted and the only pair I ever found that was such a great fit.

Well, that exact frame is no longer made anywhere. Yes, I have looked. The insult to injury is that Lenscrafters tells me that they cannot replace the lenses. I bought the glasses there, paid a high price for them, and they no longer carry the mold or whatever to replace the lenses. It was with delight that I discovered that Costco could replace them for me at less than half the cost that Lenscrafters would have charged me (and that I would have gladly paid) had they been able to perform the service.

Well now, that is kind of interesting, cpt. I read on this thread or the eyeglass thread that they won’t put the lenses in if you buy frames from elsewhere, including the sunglass frames that Costco sells outside of the optical deptartment. My mother is very into buying very expensive designer sunglasses on clearance and then going to an optician with her Rx and having the lenses put in. She has never had nicer frames and for the fraction of the cost!

I just had my lenses replaced in the last 6 months at Costco in the scenario I described. I also had a set of my MIL’s old glasses fitted with new lenses that she bought God-know-when or where, but certainly not from Costco. They did not blink an eye. I’m still fuming about Lenscrafters. These are Adrienne Vittadini frames that I bought there, and they don’t look unusual at all. Just the usual dark rectangular frames.

ECI printed cotton cardigans at Costco, $17. 3/4 length sleeves, nice thin weight. Prints are large and colors/patterns are fun. I don’t know this brand, but I bought three very different prints to add some punch to my wardrobe.

The chicken and lemon borsellini was delicious. The gyro meatball pack was a dud. Not bad but not worth the price and deceptive as the package indicated that it serves 6. Ha! There were 6 meatballs, and they did not taste any different from regular meatballs in the great big bag that was a lot cheaper. The couscous and tzatzik sauce was pretty good, however.

Their great big roasts that sell for under $3 a lb can be cut into three roasts, and baked as a rare roastbeef, steamship roaster and pot roast. A great bargain. I have a pot roast that’ll make three meals for us easily, and that was a third of the roast.

Just purchased airline ticket for a student who will drive with a friend from Boston to NYC during Spring Break, but needed other transportation for the return trip. $65.

Haven’t bought it yet, but S2 has wanted a leather jacket for a long time. Found one in the local mall in his college town, originally over $400, now $59. We’re picking him up in a few minutes and if it fits, it’s his!

D & friends bought tickets LAX to BOS R/T for about $200 apiece!

My sister bought cashmere sweaters at Macy’s for under $40 + additional coupon savings. She also got a refund from Banana Republic for items she bought before Christmas at higher prices than they’re having now, including wool, fully-lined slacks for $15, angora sweater for $12, and several cotton sweaters for $12. They gave her back just under $50!

My sister-in-law bought spring break tickets R/T HNL to SFO for about $300. They also bought their son a ticket LAX-HNL-SFO-LAX for spring break. His ticket was about $500.

We found a non-stop flight HNL to SAN for $450 in May! To have a stop & longer flight was $570–discounted convention rate! The flight would even include dinner at no additional charge! We’ll talk over the details & probably book before the fare goes up.

My daughter & her friends found theirs on Virgin ? by looking at various travel sites. I often look at itasoftware.com and it searches a lot of different carriers. There are a lot of sales right now because airlines are hussling to fill the empty seats–search carefully because there are often change penalties. I’ve had to pay $150/ticket for 2 upcoming tickets in change fees, plus another $150 to change S’s ticket at Christmas! These fees are eating us alive!

Well, I 'm not reporting a good buy, but a bad one. Son and GF home for the weekend. MIL doing better and able to leave nursing home for lunch. Valentine’s Day and Son’s B-day. Spent nearly $400 for 7 of us for brunch at a Hyatt.

I wish I had not done it. Could have bought my dishwasher. Could have bought some B-way tickets. Am now $400 poorer. Should have picked a much less lavish spread or done it at home. Sigh.
