Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

I just happened to be on the phone with AmEx. They said that as of now the cards will be cancelled and we will have to reapply for a new card. Um, no. My credit is frozen and its a royal PITA to thaw it. I asked if they would grandfather us into another Amex with similar features and she said as of now that wasnt an option, but who knows. I asked her to stuff the suggestion box DAILY with that (that we be grandfathered into another account and not have to reapply). She laughed. That wasn’t the response I wanted.

Posting this here for anyone interested in Longchamp totes as gifts. Nordie is having a price match sale. While 25% is not a great discount, these totes almost never go on sale. Lots of colors and sizes:

Oh, jym, what a PITA! I will have to memorize a new cc number then.

Thanks BB. That is a great Longchamps sale!

I think the price match is for the prices at Bloomingdales. They are currently running “Friends and Family” with a 25% discount (with lots of exceptions!)

Wow, first I’ve heard of Costco planning to dump AmEx. Bummer.

I have to wonder if Kohl’s stock/quality has changed over the years. It seems like our family, that many of you USED to shop there - or shop there for more - but now buy their infrequently. Did our tastes change or did Kohl’s stock??? I remember a time when we would get a bill from them monthly - meaning I had shopped there at least once a month - I haven’t stepped foot in one more than once or twice the last year - and probably walked out with practically nothing.

Great catch, Deb. Bloomies does include Longchamp in its FF sale this time! So there are some extra styles that Notdstrom doesn’t carry.

^^ I agree. I will buy towels and pillows for the cabin. They still carry Hallmark cards/paper so I will buy that, but I can’t remember the last time I bought any clothing item. D would never wear anything from there, and S would not wear anything but Nike. I have a gift card from there - maybe I’ll get some cards…

Thanks, BunsenBurner, for that link for Longchamp. Just ordered one for D. I’ll use it as her Easter basket.

Another successful Goodwill trip. Is is going on a trip back east next month and wanted “boyfriend jeans” and some spring shirts-got the jeans and three tops for $8. Nothing for me this time around.

BB - thanks for the Longchamps tip. I have some that are worn and faded. I just replaced them -and I had some forgotten Nordstrom notes that I used.

abasket, I think we shop much less at Costco because our kids have grown up.
No teens to feed.
Still go about every 6 weeks but mainly for their breads, which I freeze, and their Tuna and Ground Beef, which I freeze.
Their Berries are too much for us but so cheap that it does not matter if we finish them.
Sometimes a few drugstore items and esp. my face cream
Otherwise, not so much.

Why not freeze berries for baking or smoothies?

I freeze berries ( from my garden) to make compote in the winter.

I refuse to bake as I hate it. No one here drinks smoothies.

That said, I am an AMAZING cook, and use and freeze and reuse all of my foods.
Nothing goes to waste esp. with veggies. I can make a single loaf of bread dance many which ways.
I hate anything sweet. period. Fresh berries is it for me.

So I thought I was getting a good deal when I ordered a Nordic Track elliptical machine from Sears. It wasn’t in stock so I opted for store pickup when it arrived. I picked up the item from the store yesterday and brought it home. When I cut open the plastic straps, I could see that the box was not stapled shut. Everything looked well packaged so I thought maybe they just checked to see if everything was in there or in good shape. The box weighed 275 lbs. so it was not an easy feat, but we got it out of the back of the vehicle and carried pieces into the house one by one. Had to break open the box to get the main part open. Each of the individual bags were already cut open like it was put together before. Not happy. I was willing to put it together to see if it worked and then complain, but the wires are out of place on one of the main pieces so I’m stuck. Now I see that the main console screen has scratches on it. I thought I got a good deal from Sears with the sale. I think they sent me one of the refurbished ones from their Sears Outlet store. If I wanted a used one, I would’ve bought one used on ebay. I never spent $700 on a piece of equipment before, but I wanted a good one. I’m waiting for the store to open at 11:00. I broke the original box and am worried that they will give me a hard time. There is no repacking this thing up anyways. Bringing it back is even a hassle. The thing is massive and heavy. Do you think they’ll agree to picking this one up and bringing me a “new” one. Should I call the credit card company to dispute the charge or call Sears first? I have not had a good experience with online purchases. They just seem to repackage damaged or used items and send it off to the next person. I’m so disappointed. I was looking forward to this machine as my treadmill broke a couple of weeks ago. Any advice from my fellow shoppers?!

Return it and get the one on sale at Costco.

“Should I call the credit card company to dispute the charge or call Sears first?”

Cc companies require that you have to try to sort things out with the merchant first. If the merchant digs its heels in, then the cc company will deal with it.

Agreed- call sears first and explain the situation. Be sure to get the name and location of who you talk to.

Agree with jym626 Take lots of notes during the phone call. Who you speak with, what they agree to do, etc. and read it back to them—As I understand it, you are sending a brand new machine to me by Date XYZ and you will remove this machine when that one is delivered…

@oregon101 - how do you make a loaf of bread “dance?”

intrigued . . . .
