I renewed my US magazine subscription for 1 year for $25 through a special offer I received. Both D’s and I love to catch up on our celebrity gossip each week with US!
@showmom858 I can get US magazine and >350 others through one of my public library accounts for free. I haven’t bought a magazine for about 4 years since I got my first tablet. I use the Zinio app.
I have about 6 local library cards and at least 3 have access to Zinio. Most libraries allow you to have a card but you usually have to go in person and show ID to receive a card.
Here’s the library’s magazine portal, and I live in Orange County, CA: http://www.rbdigital.com/lapl/service/zinio/landing?q=%2F%2F&p_num=1
Nice @Happy2Help ! My library only offers periodicals in the Nook format, for some reason (I have a Kindle). I do enjoy free Kindle books from it and rarely buy any.
I forgot the Overdrive app! Haven’t bought a recently published book in 4 years either, as they all start to come out onto the library’s electronic lending through Overdrive. I’ve already put myself on the electronic waiting list at all libraries for “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”
I also use Zinio, Overdrive and Hoopla for magazines and books. When you use one of these apps on your iPad you can also easily “save” recipes/photos/ etc. to your photos on your iPad - so you don’t need to have the actual magazine in hand or tear out pages or anything! Every time we are heading out on a road trip - short or long - we download!
Count me and my DD in for not buying a single book in the past few years. I order paper books to be delivered to my local library including textbooks for DD. She uses Overdrive app for Kindle.
Another good find is using Verizon points. If you sign up for this free program every time you pay your bill you get points added. They have special deals or completely free magazine subscriptions you can use this points for.
Thanks for the tips on the magazines! US is the only one I pay for. All the others we get through expiring airline miles. You will never get my D to give up her hard copy fashion magazines. She does not enjoy them on the ipad and prefers to look at her glossy pages!
I just got an email from Southwest offering a code to cover the cost of the TSA precheck application fee ($85) in exchange for 9,000 rapid reward points. I think it might be worth doing.
Read it carefully-- it sounds like its only for one flight, as it says it can only be used for 8 codes per member. Please report back what you find out. The email is confusing.
I use overdrive for books - to read and I also download audio titles on my iPhone to listen to while walking in the morning.
If you prefer paperbacks and don’t mind parting with them, paperbackswap.com is a great source.
Well, no surprise. Bon-Ton cancelled my follow-up order.
@jym626, sometimes the time and “pain” outweigh the bargain. Sorry.
My husband had a $40 TJ Maxx/Marshall’s credit he told me to use up, and I managed to find a really cute (leather!) pair of FitFlops on the clearance rack for $36!

^ @LucieTheLakie, that is a great deal! I love FitFlops but seldom see them in my size (7) at TJ Maxx.
Another FitFlop lover here!
Got my entire Bon-Ton order today and am very happy with the colors. Some of the names and colors didn’t match up but what I got was what was pictured. One in particular was emerald green which I think of as a kelly green but this was a really nice deep dark teal.
I love the Overdrive app. I use a Nook with a Kindle App, both work well. DH has a Kindle, the Nook app doesn’t work well (or at all).
I have about 5 library cards, a couple have great magazine collections without Zinno, etc. Check around your area and see what options are available.
I have trouble finding shoes to fit my wide feet so I go for comfort more than the looks.
I found a shoe (loafer) that I liked in the past online regularly $89 on sale for $29.99.
Today online they were giving an extra 30% off so I got three pairs for $63 with free shipping and 6 percent cashback with ebates. I hate shopping for myself so if I find something I like that I will use I get several of them to save me the hassle of having to go shopping again.
I received the Columbia Fleece jackets today but one of them (bluebell) has security tags on the bottom.
I mention this so that if you too have ordered the jackets to make sure that there are no security tags on your jackets.
I have emailed customer service so that I know what action to take to resolve this.
Oh man. What a pain… Hope you live near one of their stores. There is not one within 1000 mi of where I live! I was unfamiliar with these stores before this deal.
