@thumper1, didn’t know you could use the 20% off coupon online at BBB. Thought it was for in-store purchases only.
Going through BB&B, you can get 20% off some items that “never go on sale.” I used a coupon to buy an expensive Jura Impresa espresso machine. In the store they let me use the coupon for a Breville convection toaster oven, another item that ive never seen on sale.
BB&B apparently just recently started allowing the 20% off coupons for online purchases. And, if you order through mrrebates, you get an additional 3% back. PM me for a referral to it. We both benefit that way!
If you go through UPromise.com, you earn 7% back + additional 5% when using UPromise MasterCard.
I think I’ve heard people praising StyleWe here? Did I imagine that? I see a beautiful dress on the site and was wondering if you all have found their sizing estimates to be accurate. I ask because by their estimate, I would be several sizes larger than normal, which is fine. I just want decent odds of a success and not having to return it.
Not sure if it’s a “good buy”…but 24 year old S thinks so! He needed rental car in Charlotte and of course, didn’t jump on it until 5 days prior to trip [-X. Enterprise (which doesn’t charge an arm and leg for under 25 drivers) was coming in about $280 for 4 days–ouch! I check out AAA, as they have been competitive on car rentals lately. I was thinking if he did have to pay the under 25 premium, it might still be cheaper. Much to my surprise…AAA has deal with Hertz and they waive the under 25 fees! So, booked him small car, prepay $70 + $40 for airport fees–saving him $170! Of course, first had him quickly enroll in Hertz club. S thinks I’m a Star!
Fast forward to yesterday and he’s trying to get car in Charlotte. Nope, tell him fees apply to under 25, read small print, blah blah blah and that’s $80 more. He does, feeling he has no choice as there is small print on page 4 of contract that says fees for under 25 may apply. Lost my Star status.
So, I put Mama Bear hat on and call AAA ready to do battle. Right off bat, they say Nope, Hertz was wrong, got them on phone and had them reverse the $80 fees, all within 3 minutes. Status restored.
For those with kids still in school or teachers…I just went to Target and over half of the school supplies (in the special school supply section) were 90 percent off. They had all kinds of stuff…folders, pencils, paper, pens, composition books, school decor, etc. I did have to tell the cashier that the items were 90% off, as some of the items didn’t ring up automatically at that price. Fortunately, I remembered to take a picture of the display to show the cashier, just to verify. I spent less than $5 and ended up with two full bags of school supplies.
Hertz, in my humble opinion, has transitioned from a formerly reputable company to a fly-by-night operation on par with the worst used car dealers and ambulance chasing lawyers. For my past three rentals, there has always been an additional, unwarranted charge added.
Renting cars has gone from an innocuous event to a gird the loins for battle for every cent. One more travel annoyance I hate.
I am renting from Enterprise at $32/day. I have AAA but thought Hertz was more expensive and their nearest location is 25 miles away.
Hertz also pulled a fast one with me when I picked up a car which I booked through AAA. I was told they would have to rebook the reservation (at a higher rate, of course) because we were LATE to pick up when I arrived at 1220 for a 1200 reservation. :-w She couldn’t/wouldn’t tell me what their definition of late is.
Not a fan of Hertz after that.
I am a huge fan of Hertz BUT I’ve found that locations can vary quite a bit in how professional they are. My neighborhood Hertz is amazing and I had a great experience at an airport location recently. But last year, I had a very bad experience at a different airport. They’re all owned by different people/companies, apparently. It may be that some are corporate and some are not, but a friend works for our local Hertz (recent college grad mgmt trainee) and he can work at Hertz all over the country but none of the ones in the large city near us because those are all owned by a large local car dealership.
Hertz in Iceland is a mess and has a terrible reputation.
It is our 1st choice most of the time so this was surprising.
Interesting. I was picking up at the Atlanta Airport. I also had trouble filling my tank before returning, as did my dd at the same location. I suspected a dirty tactic to get the premium refueling charges from unsuspecting customers.
Just found this movie sale on iTunes. Ten movies for $10 (to own, not rent) but it ends tonight. Here is a description.

Hertz told us to wait 30 min because we came to pick up our car too early. Nevermind that they were charging us a week worth of rent for a 6 day rental! No can’t do. Never again.
'Nuff of the bad deals. Let’s talk about good deals!!!
I stopped using Hertz back in the early 90s. Remember the days when you had to call in a reservation and write down all the info? I did that carefully and was told it was different when I showed up to rent the car. Much more $$$ but I had no “proof” since it was only my notes and how could I shop around on the fly when a friend and I were about to leave on a trip? I wrote a long and detailed letter of complaint to them later and was basically told, sorry/not sorry. I haven’t used Hertz since.
This is not encouraging. I’m renting from Hertz, for the first time in ages, next month. Even with AAA they’re usually not the cheapest alternative, but for next month’s trip they were. We’re always vigilant about upcharges anyway. Keeping my fingers crossed, while I keep checking other companies until we leave.
I rented a car in DC at Reagan a few weeks ago. I had reserved the car using Priceline so I wasn’t expecting any additional charges. I wasn’t charged extra, but the girl at the counter non-chalantly asked me if I wanted basic coverage or premium. I never sign up for their extra insurance because it is so expensive and I have my own. I stated I wasn’t interested in any coverage because I had my own. The system went down and she had to renter everything again. She asked me the same question about the basic/premium coverage. Just thought it was deceptive because the way she said it, it was like you didn’t have a choice. I could see someone falling for it and opting for the basic. Then when you initial all those forms, it’s very confusing and the print is so small. Car rental companies are so shady!
Just be an informed consumer. Print out a copy of your rental contract and refuse to pay more. Just be firm and repeat, “no, thanks” to any pitch they make. Hertz is fine and there fleet is better than some others.
Just got back from our first trip using the Chase Sapphire Reserve card I mentioned a few pages back. When I saw the posts on rental cars, I felt compelled to say the upgrade to National Emerald Aisle due to the credit card was a very good thing for us. It was cheaper than the car we had previously booked for this trip AND the easy, walk up, pick a car and go was amazing. My husband, who used to travel a lot for business, said he had missed the convenience…so just another bonus from the card.
