Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

@cartera45 - I use Honey and Ebates. Honey is great at finding cheaper deals on Amazon but so far not so great with coupon codes - for me anyway. Both ebates and honey offer cash back and you can use both for one purchase so I keep both. Ebates has coupon codes also but you need to click on it to see them, it’s not like Honey that pops up offering codes when you check out.

I was watching flights for a vacation for months and when fares finally went down I bought them using Expedia (flights on Delta) because on expedia I get 10% cashback - not bad for such a large purchase. I may use Expedia for some of the hotel also.

I’m also in the market for the Ipad Air 2. I missed the $274 Target deal.

I know it was posted earlier, but just a reminder that if you purchase Cheesecake Factory gift cards through today or tomorrow (can’t remember which), you get 2 free slices to be claimed between about Jan 1 and March 31. I just got $150, that we will use for whenever we go. It’s a great deal if you remember to use the slices.

I used the Amazon book code. I think I’m going to be the recipient of a Thermapen. I told H I liked the purple or the orange color.
I ordered packing cubes from EBags and went through Mr Rebates. My D borrows my packing cubes when she travels so I got her a set of her own. They have several different styles and almost all are on sale for a great price.
I bought a new IPad Pro earlier this fall on a vacation in Montana. Bought it at Costco with no sales tax in Montana. That saved me 8.5% in my local sales tax. Plus I have executive membership and used my Costco Business Visa so will get some additional rewards. A huge improvement in speed over my old IPad 2.
I’m going to check Amazon tomorrow for an Instantpot for D.

Patsmom, I just got uncommon goods catalog, it does have a lot of neat ideas for hard to buy for people or just to get something someone else wont readily find.

After reading about the instapot here, I bought for DS/DIL the one that was on sale Saturday (not the duo, unfortunately) but, the price of the one I bought dropped by $5 today. Called amazon and they credited my credit card the $5! So it was originally around $89 - got it for $49. Now today the 6 qt duo is on sale today. Not sure if I want it for myself… and its not quite as cheap as it was Friday, but is still pretty reasonable. Will think about it.

@jym626 Are you sure the DUO is not as cheap today as Friday. This morning, I thought it is at $69. Was Friday’s deal less than that?
Anyway, if you don’t have a DUO, $69 is the best price so far. I bought one last year black Friday for $79.
I am holding myself back from buying a 3rd one this morning.

OK-- I just saw that the poster who mentioned it was it was 73% off on Friday. I got $5 back from amazon as the smaller, non duo one I ordered for DS went on sale further today. I dont do a lot of stews or such and I have a slow cooker. Is this worth the $? Should I get the single (non duo) pressure cooker for $49?

Jym, does the non-duo have sauté function? That’s what I use to brown meat before pressure-cooking it. I basically disposed of my slow cooker because the Instapot does the same thing a crockpot does - but in 30 minutes instead of 6 hours.

@jym626, I read your posts all the time on all the good deals you get. This is probably the only time I can share a good deal with you. $-)
Yes. get either one. I have one LUX and one DUO. If you buy just one, I think I buy the DUO. But if you decide to get LUX, you would still enjoy it and not feel like you miss the DUO. Does that make sense?
It’s not just for stews. I use it to cook rice, pasta. I cooked buffalo chicken wings last night and finish them off in the oven to get the crisp.

Thanks, @4beardolls. Is the 5 quart a good enough size (thats what I got for DS, but they have limited storage space for it).

@BunsenBurner Yes. they both have saute function.
LUX - one pressure.
DUO - low and high pressure. You really only use low pressure for seafood, eggs, yogurt type of things. It also has a lip to hold the lid which is more useful than one thinks.
I basically dedicate my LUX for basic stuff like rice/noodles/potatoes. And I got rid of my rice cooker.
I use my DUO to cook dishes.
I like both models.

I also am an Instapot owner and recommend that you will want the saute function. I’m glad I have the multi function. Otherwise, isn’t it just a pressure cooker??? I like that I can saute, make yogurt (haven’t yet!), use it as a rice cooker, slow cook or pressure cook(which I do use most).

Thanks, beardolls! I was not familiar with the Lux. I have the Duo, but I mostly use the high pressure function - even for HB eggs. 1-2 min and then a few min NPR.

Anyway, back to bargain shopping!

OK- I pulled the trigger on the duo. I paid for it with my Discover card, which is currently giving 5% back on Amazon purchases (I’d forgotten that when I bought stuff over the weekend) and I had $16 in cash/credit/rewards $ on my Discover card. So it will cost around $57 plus I will get about $2.85 credit on my Discover card.

How does the lid on the LUX work? Easy to pick up?

@jym626 I cook for dinner for 3 but like to have enough left over for lunch or midnight snack for hungry teens. So I just follow a typical recipe. But I find myself doing 1.5 or 2x recipe based on the amount of meat that comes in a typical package. In that case, the 5 quart would be too small for me especially if it was a soup or stew dish.
If your D/DIL’s family size is small and don’t double up on recipes, then it might be good.
I am actually thinking about getting a 8 qt for soup but I am really trying to not go there. Currently, I have one 6 qt DUO sitting in my cart for a possible gift.

Both have saute options showing on their panel.

And I have the microwave egg cooker thingy everyone bought here on cc. Is the instapot cooker version better?

@jym626 That’s great you got one DUO 6 qt coming.
LUX lid can’t rest on the pot like the DUO so you just have to leave it on the counter.
If money is not a big concern, I would really go with DUO. You did well!

Thanks!! I see that the dimensions aren’t really different, though the LUX is shorter (guessing its because of the handle on the lid) so maybe it will fit better in their cabinet?/ I know I am rationalizing., but I’d already bought it for them before this one went on sale). Now I have to read the mega page thread on recipes!!

Jym, this is what I do: put up to 8 eggs in the Instapot onto the little wire insert that comes with it, add a cup of water to cover the bottom and generate steam under pressure, push the “Bean” button (1-2 min timer set), and walk away. After a few min of NPR, the eggs are ready.
