Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

Restaurant Week Pre-Fixe $29 lunch/$42 dinner menu at Le Perigord. Enjoyed taking some time off this afternoon for a friend’s birthday lunch.

Good selection of delectable food at a very reasonable price.

A good buy at the “good buy” store - the secondhand furniture shop - a resale furniture shop. Snagged a in perfect condition wicker side table/nightstand with a drawer and shelf storage - full wicker. Got it for half off - $30!

Perfect for the cottage and bye-bye particle board table that is there now!!!

^^^I found this post sitting in my reply box from a couple of weeks ago - still a good buy!

Haven’t hardly even stepped in a store for a few weeks - a little shopping trip or good buy sounds good right now!

Yes, retail therapy is helpful at present.

At my request, friend rechecked prices on our rental cars for Hawaii, And saved $290.
He hasn’t told me the overall cost, and I’m afraid to ask. I’m a bargain hunter, but not sure about friends.

Just got D fitted at Bloomingdale’s for bras for the first time in many, many years. Of course I had to buy at least two because the salesclerk was so nice and helped us for a long time (plus we were the only people in the department). I was able to buy similar bras at Nordstrom’s rack for a small fraction of the price in D’s size (very petite) and since I spent over $100, free shipping! D is thrilled to have pretty new bras the fit properly–priceless!

Victoria’s Secret will fit bras for free-and will even tell you if they don’t carry a bra that will fit properly. D has the opposite problem-very large cup size, so VS doesn’t carry her size, but their fit is spot on and then we go around the corner in the mall to Nordstrom Rack where we buy the correct size at $20 each instead of $80 and up. It’s always a struggle trying them on and D hates, hates, hates the ordeal so it happens as seldom as possible.

Have never had a bra “fitted” except by me. Is that a thing? What happens? I certainly would not want someone else within hands reach of my chest.

I haven’t found the Victoria’s Secret fitting people that knowledgeable/helpful in my area.

@ChoatieMom Measurements of different areas with a tape measure. Less intrusive than a breast exam by a doctor.

@ChoatieMom - the ladies at Nordstrom that did my fitting are elderly and professional and all business. It’s an odd thing, but they really do get it right!

I’m pretty sure VS doesn’t have D’s size (small band and cup size) and we were thrilled that Bloomies did. It was fine overpaying for two and now we know what size she is and are fine buying via mail or elsewhere. D is not a fan of shopping, so however I can make it easy I will.

Have heard a lot about VS not having that good a range of sizes and not having qualified bra fitters. I have smallish band but large cup size and have my own issues finding comfortable bras.

I’m sure it varies by location. “Our” VS has some well-trained people-they’ve always done well with D and I think the girl must have brought D 15 bras to see if any of them would work for her back when she was a smaller size, and taking very careful measurements.

@ChoatieMom it’s a thing if you’re not a typical size-I can find what I need off the rack, but D is not so lucky. @HImom D has found that even the “correct” size, once measured varies in style enough that she must try on her bras, so we avoid buying online if at all possible, unless it’s to get another of the same style/size she already owns. I’m just hoping she’s finally going to stay one size and we can avoid the dreaded bra shopping trips for a bit.

Soma and Nordstrom can also do bra fittings. It all depends on the person doing it and their experience and training, but I’ve had good luck at both places. Recently I went to both, trying to find something that was comfortable with my still-tender ribs. The Nordstrom’s woman was unable to fit me comfortably (I’m not sure she was listening to me) but the Soma woman went up a band size and tried a few different styles and I am so much more comfortable throughout the day now. It can make a big difference.

Thanks, @doschicos, but no. I’ll assume that if the band is comfortable and nothing’s hanging out, it fits.

ChoatieMom, there is more to the fit than that. You can fit yourself if you wish… HerRoom has good instructions. I am on my phone, and their site reverts to home page, so you can google those or I’ll try to post from a non-mobile device later!

I think it was Oprah who said once that 8 out of 10 women are wearing the wrong bra size.

I’ve been fitted 3 times (hey I guess I like women guessing my bra size  ). Soma, VS and Nordstrom. Soma was the worst and i do not like their bras. Nordstrom was the best by far, I look thinner and bustier with the bra they fitted me in. VS was in the middle and I found one bra there that works for me.

I’ve had challenges getting bras that are comfortable and fit well. I have a relative small rib cage but amble breasts. Have been incorrectly fitted by many, including Nordstroms, Macy’s and a specialty lingerie store, Coco’s Lingerie. I have not spent much time at VS–just don’t like that store. I just try on many things and keep those that are comfortable and seem to fit the best.

I think it is generally easier for those who aren’t as chesty as they’re not having to work as hard defying gravity.

With mail order, we can try things on in the comfort of our home and take back those that don’t work. I always prefer free shipping – either both ways or at least free shipping to me and stores I can return in person. Nordstrom’s Rack fits that criteria.

This is on my life to do list - just to see what they suggest - but it’s one of the life list things that NEVER gets done!

Yesterday I was a bit glum because fares I was contemplating HNL to SFO were over $600. This morning I checked again and they had fallen to $522 and allowed me to use $150 gift certificates for each ticket, bringing the price of each ticket below $400. Best of all, for some reason, we were allowed to choose among economy plus seats at no extra charge. Our tickets also state that we are each entitled to check two bags free!

Now I’m thinking of booking my other flights, in case my status changes and I no longer have free access to economy plus seats. Since our flights are 5-12 hours, it REALLY makes a difference!
