Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

I bought an insta pot from kohls when they had their recent 30% off sale a week or so ago. It was $76 and I thought why wait for a couple of dollars.

I bought the north face jacket but haven’t received it yet. This weekend I was at sil’s cottage and she had the cutest rain jacket from lululemon. I had a bit of buyers remorse. My old rain jacket is 20 years old, I did get a lot of use, why did I buy a $28 jacket when the lululemon one was so cute? Looked up the lululemon jacket, it’s $178! Changed my mind, I’m just fine with my $28 jacket.

The lululemon rise and shine jacket (water resistant) is really cute, but it will not provide the same level of protection from the elements as the North Face jacket (waterproof).

Thanks @SnLMom, I feel even better about the north face jacket.

Still waiting on the delivery of the rain jackets.

The green Gorilla Cart with 400lb capacity is now only $64 on Amazon. List price is $100.

I had it marked on camelcamelcamel in case it went below $70 so this is a great price.

Received the North Face jackets.

One in size Small Women’s Resolve Rain Jacket
One in size Small Women’s Venture Jacket

I think the Venture jacket is better made. It is more durable and daughter liked that one better. Even though both were size small I felt the Venture Jacket was bigger. For my daughter who is 5 foot 6 inches the Venture Jacket length was better. The Resolve Jacket was mesh material inside but the Venture jacket was made of a more durable material inside. Being that it is lighter(Resolve) it is easily foldable to fit in your bag and lightweight.

I am not able to figure out the cord system. For example on the Resolve Jacket daughter tightened the hood with the cord but is not able to open it back up. It is scrunched up together. How do you unscrunch it with the cord?

I also received my North Face order today. Both my L and my DD’s M size fit well except for my sleeve length are a little long (to be expected due to my arm length). It came just in time as I am taking it with me to my trip to the National Parks next week!

@raclut - To unscrunch the cords on the resolve jacket hood, locate the spring stop cord locks concealed in the hem of the hood. You might not be able to see them easily, but you should be able to feel for them near where the cord exits the hood. The locks on the waist cord are visible.

The sleeve lengths are long even on the small jacket. @snlmom I am going to try your suggestion to see if it works. Thank you.

Went to Goodwill since I needed a sweater/jacket for fall season.

Bought a nice Fall Coldwater Creek jacket with the original price tag still on it - was marked as $25 from original $70 but it was yellow ticket half off day so it was $12.50. Score! It’s a nice blue color. I’m holding out for a pea-coat jacket that I saw that still had original price tag - $225 - marked to $50 but it had a green tag so maybe next week it’ll be $25? Let’s hope!

Also bought a dressy shirt for $2.50, an Eddie Bauer light pink cardigan (when did I become so girly?!) for $5.00 and a denim-looking shirt for $2.50, & 4 books for $6.00. Good haul, under $30.

I got my north face rain jacket today and I don’t like it at all. It’s super boxy and the arms are too long. It’s a miss for me unfortunately. I got the pink and it’s really bright.

It took 15 days I think for it to get here. It’s a nice jacket, the fit is just all wrong for me.

@Writer1992 you have a good goodwill!

I’ve been eyeing a few ceramic bowls at homegoods ($10-12) and today found them on clearance at TJ Maxx for $4.50.

Anyone know what happened to sseamom? The posts about goodwill made me think about her and her daughter.

What a coincidence that I checked here today! I don’t stop by CC much these days, but I DO have a great Goodwill report. DD is in her sophomore year of college (wow, where did the time go?) and is secretary of the student senate. She needed some new professional type skirts because she’s lost weight and changed shape so nothing fits. I went to both Value Village AND Goodwill on Labor Day and scored 4 pencil skirts from stores including J. Crew and Loft and a Nordstrom brand, plus a lovely hand-made one. Total was $14 including tax. I was a happy lady.

I had an even better score yesterday at the meat/fish counter at the grocery store. They were handing out samples of their salmon cakes-the lady gave me 4 pounds worth! Free! Can’t wait to have H grill them on our grill before the wet weather returns to Seattle.

@psychmomma it’s a new Goodwill too! Right down the street. I live in an affluent county so the quality is good as well although I got exhausted going through all the racks! Only made it through about 25%. Must go back

I prefer going alone but have gone with my mom before - she’s just super busy.

I got a gorgeous queen size Garnet Hill pieced quilt for $10 today. Gotta love resale shops!!

Here’s a good buy on a popular textbook.

"Intermediate Accounting, Binder Ready Version 16th edition costs $184.00 new but the 15th edition costs $128.05 (70%) less. If you want a used textbook the 16th edition costs $159.90 but the 15th edition is only $3.54 (98% less).

You can see a side-by-side comparison (http://whichedition.com/books/intermediate-accounting-binder-ready-version,777/) with publication dates, page counts, and publishers notes for both editions.

@Brederic, If the professor has specified the new edition, you should buy the new edition unless they specifically allow for use of an older edition. 1) New revenue recognition rules are just now being implemented in new editions of accounting texts and the intermediate course is where those changes would be most emphasized. It is essential to understand these for both the CPA exam and for professional practice. 2) The publishers change the end of chapter material to make the book fresher, to keep it consistent with new practice standards and to keep the book from matching older editions. Old editions are not generally a good deal.

Got S2 a very reasonably priced flight to visit us on 12/24. He usually flies here on 12/25 (we’re Jewish) so I was used to finding very reasonable and uncrowded flights. I wasn’t sure what I’d find this year with him wanting to arrive earlier (he’s leaving earlier on the other end), but I was pleasantly surprised.
