your green squares - holistic reviews at work

The more green squares you have the likelier college adcoms love your essays, I mean your posts. And you know what they like. Is that about right?

Not really. For the green squares anybody and everybody can vote to “like” your posts. For your admissions essays only a small committee gets to vote on them. Your fellow applicants do not get even see your essays, much less vote on them.

The analogy would be better if if the green squares were awarded only by a vote of say the CC mods or site administrators.

COUREUR, I pushed you over! How is your DD?

I use my iPad more than my laptop. I’ve tried hovering over the green squares and nothing happens! Does that mean iPad users can’t give anyone a rep?

You have to click on the scale thingy to the right of the CC symbol. But several times while I was in the middle of writing a comment, the rep window disappeared and so now I have no idea if I succeeded in giving points or not.

I added to all of the above posters just to see how much “green” one can spread. I wasn’t blocked. Silly fun.

Thanks! I’ll give you some back!

It is a little harder on the iPad, but I love my iPad. So, even if I have to hit the scales several times to write a comment, I do. Be persistent. Unless you get a message back about adding to someone’s rep, it means it didn’t register.

GFG v Bookworm, who will get the first light green square?

I’ve hit you both tonight

If you click on the scale again, the box should reappear. Filling the box doesn’t complete the rep, you need to click on the accept button; afterward, if successful, you’ll get a dialog box with the usual good-luck message.

I’m THIS close to the next level!

Spent some time giving rep to lowly one-squarers. :)

Why does this remind me of being the last one picked in gym class?

I got some rep clicks that have blue-ish purple squares… I think they are from new posters who don’t have enough experience to give rep points or something. So I get the box in my list of rep items, but no new points. :frowning: That is what I get to replying to Chances threads, I guess.

Griffen. Please post something so I can share with you. I remember you from Carleton, right?

I had parents in mind and thought they were almost as good as or even better than adcomes. On a few threads however they are getting squares for fun, perhaps fun is part of a holistic evaluation.

Soph14’sMom, because it is a lot like that. These things always turn into popularity contests. I was disappointed when they added a ‘rate your fellow member’ feature, so I am treating it like the joke that it is.
