What do you love to do that many high school students don’t participate in?

I’ll start - genealogical research. I’ve been doing this since fifth grade and have accumulated many stories and historical accounts from my ancestors, with over 10,000 individuals in my family tree database.

Write. I mean, there’s a lot of kids who like to write I’m sure, but I don’t just write little things or anything, I’ve actually been working on a novel for the past 2-3 or so years. I don’t think too many kids do that.

I actually also have been working on a few novels (none very good) yet still

Near me, there’s a professional theater and each year they put on a show completely directed, designed and acted by high school students. Like I know theater is sort of common, but how many High schoolers get to help produce a professional show? I’ve done it every year of high school so far.

I like modding video games, mostly be using pre-made tools. Though, ever since I began my APCS course I have been making small games on my (albeit little) free time.

I make jewelry, write Shakespearean sonnets and other forms of poetry, and write self-help articles. Next semester I’m probably going to start taking fashion design classes on the weekends. I wanted to start breakdancing but I don’t know if I’m strong enough. :p

I’m a freelance web developer. I have a few jobs every month, and I taught a web design elective at my school for a semester (epic EC for caltech/mit).

I’m a master (but not certified, sue me) in HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript/jQuery. Intermediate in PHP/SQL.

Currently, I’m working on a custom blogging engine (like Wordpress or tumblr) to be open-sourced. :)

I run my own philosophical/poetic blog in my free time. I also write about a number of miscellaneous topics, from short stories to music. I love writing.

It makes my desire to go into engineering even more puzzling.

I bird-watch. I’m even in the Audubon Society.
I’m also into demographics. I know all about the economic and racial stats for my town and the others around it.
I’m also a huge supporter of School District Consolidation, which I think needs to happen here for the sake of taxpayers and students. I’ve been writing up consolidation ideas and even sent one to a local socio-economics professor.

I find a lot of random stuff terribly interesting:
f(x) = x^x
Chemosynthesis
Typographical characters
Globes and world maps
Philosophical zombies
But usually the extent of these interests is Googling them and seeing what comes up.

WWI family research and battlefield touring, popular among old people but never met another teen who does it.

Also crying all the way through the Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It wasn’t even that sad, but whenever 3 characters say anything it’s just so heartbreaking when you know what happens to them :/

edit: as soon as I posted that, I got an advert at the top of the page for Forces War Records :D

Co-owner of a talent management company, that serves both the San Francisco and Los Angeles fashion markets.

Also, I’ve directed two social justice documentaries and participate in research surrounding race relations, cultural analysis, and radical politics.
