Mine is a combo of mascot animals, one for the college I attended, the other the one my son ended up attending for just one year. So it doesn’t really apply anymore (he is now a Wildcat).
I had monitored (lurked) for some time before plunging in, and had seen SO MUCH hand-wringing, angst, and overthinking; twisting incrementally small issues and faux pas into magnified putative life-changers. I like to remind myself (and others) that there are many, many excellent outcomes, and that the whole college process is important to get right; but at the end of the day it is not life-or-death. It’s just school!
How I feel hiking here and after the John Denver song, but in the past 5 years it has taken a new meaning in Colorado.
Son had already applied for colleges, and came here to ask a few questions. Like others, never expected to be on daily. I used a nickname without much thought. I didn’t know at the time I’d be running the city Bookclub.
“said the 'Stute Fish. ‘If you swim to latitude Fifty North, longitude Forty West (that is magic), you will find, sitting on a raft, in the middle of the sea, with nothing on but a pair of blue canvas breeches, a pair of suspenders (you must not forget the suspenders, Best Beloved), and a jack-knife, one ship-wrecked Mariner, who, it is only fair to tell you, is a man of infinite-resource-and-sagacity.’”
WHEN the cabin port-holes are dark and green
Because of the seas outside;
When the ship goes wop (with a wiggle between)
And the steward falls into the soup-tureen,
And the trunks begin to slide;
When Nursey lies on the floor in a heap,
And Mummy tells you to let her sleep,
And you aren’t waked or washed or dressed,
Why, then you will know (if you haven’t guessed)
You’re “Fifty North and Forty West!”

Mine is the name of a song by a post-Twisted Sister Dee Snider band, Desperado. It’s pronounced “Am I Evil?” And the year I created the username… it predates my involvement on CC by a few years. At this point Ema feels as much like my name as my actual name, so there’s no changing it.
Hi Ema! Glad to see you!!
Yes, Ema, hope all has been well.
I like how it sounds if it were read aloud.

This is the only chat forum I’ve ever joined. I had no idea how it worked. No one knows by my screen name that I’m a parent, should have made it more clear. My H & I used to have friendly ‘bets’ and bet each other a chocolate chip cookie to whomever was right. I’d usually win and my H would have to buy me a gourmet cookie, from a bakery, not a supermarket!
I had no idea I’d also be here 5 years later. I would have chosen ‘mom’ or ‘parent’ in my name.
Mine is pretty simple. I drive a bus (an Airbus, that is).
It’s interesting how people came up with their usernames. Some are obvious, some obscure, but most tell us something about the person.
I’ve been “prezbucky” in many different forums over about the past 15 years.
Prez = President
Bucky = Bucky Badger
My user name “is what it is”.
