so i’m starting school tomorrow and i’m gonna get my schedule changed. for those of you who took a zero period on a packed rigorous schedule… would you recommend it? i have the choice of taking a zero period and ending school a period earlier or not taking a zero and getting out at school time. I heard that taking a zero during junior year with ap classes is gonna affect your sleep, and how you study in school.

What the heck is a zero period? I’ve never even heard of it before…

Some schools have “zero periods” in which the class occurs before school starts. I remember my middle school had a 0 period band class.

Is there an advantage to finishing school a period earlier? I don’t know, like being able to spend more time on some after school activity? If not, I’d stick with the regular schedule and your regular sleeping habits!

If you have a choice, why not just do regular? Why wake up earlier?

It really depends. When does your school usually start?
I did it last year for one semester, and it wasn’t that bad. Still I wouldn’t really recommend it, because I didn’t go to bed earlier the night before, although I knew I’d be tired. Most times it pretty much killed me…

do it if you want to kill yourself mentally…or you are a morning person.

I sort of did it last year, and it was fine (also junior year w/ bunch of APs). We started at 6:45, but I’m a morning person, so it didn’t bother me in the slightest.

If your not used to waking up ~early, then I’d recommend that you not take it, because it’ll obviously mess w/ your circadian rhythms and so probably wouldn’t be worth it… if you’re up and ready by the time it starts already, then I guess sure, go ahead and take it!

Sigh. 0 period. I am not a morning person at all, but it is nice to have any parking space you like. I get to school when there is no one there (6:50) and leave when there is no one there (~4)…woe is me.

I took a zero period freshman and soph years and I only really felt the effects of it during soph year. It meant an hour less sleep and more work each night. I probably would’ve taken one this year if not for schedule conflicts. I think having one fewer class will help in studying for SATs and stuff. Do it if you’re a morning person and you can handle it. Otherwise, don’t.

If you’ll actually go to sleep earlier than normal, I think it’d be great to have a 0 period. You get out of school earlier!! lol. How can you pass that up?!
