I learn something new everyday—today’s new thing I learned about… a babymoon! I
is that nuts or am I just not with the program?
I can appreciate the concept of a babymoon, although this is the first time I’m hearing the term.
I haven’t heard the word before, but I’m sincerely puzzled about what is nuts about getting a vacation in before a new baby comes along. What makes you think it’s “nuts”?
flying from virginia to mexico pregnant and with two little kids is a trek not a vacation (IMO)
They were going to leave the kids behind.
veryhappy…typo I meant to say–even without the two little kids that is a trek. ( I need a proof reader)
I am so sick of pregnant women being treated like they carry a horrid disease! Ridiculed for their expanding bellies, shamed into covering their bodies with burqa like clothes (for god forbid someone gets offended by the belly button showing under the stretched out tunic!)… Now what? We poke fun at a pregnant woman who wanted to go on vacation? People come up with all sorts of derogatory words to describe pregnancy and pregnant women - like this “babymoon.”
No wonder young women do not want to have kids!
I always heard of a babymoon in reference to the time spent after a birth with your newborn. That intense time of bonding and nesting is what I think of as a babymoon. But I am pro-vacation of all sorts.
Still not getting your point, Zobroward.
BB–who is poking fun? She can go on all the vacations she wants–just not to mosquito Zika-virus ville. Pretty soon the US will have all pregnant women covered up to avoid being bitten. Nobody wants birth defects.
And “babymoon” is a new? term. I think it’s been around awhile. I went on vacation before my first was born–can’t drink, tired, heavy. No thanks,
When the title of the thread implies that a pregnant woman should not even consider a vacation while pregnant… That’s not “poking fun.”
Good for the couple to cancel.
Some women run marathons with their unborn kid tucked inside. If the woman is healthy and wants to go on vacation, why not? A few rays of sun and some couple time do not hurt. And to some people vacations are not about food and boozing up.
Um…I have a grandbaby. Parents went on a babymoon before it was born. Most of their friends did the same before the birth of their first baby. Babymoon isn’t a derogatory term.
Today most women pregnant with a first baby work full time. It can be exhausting. So, I suspect the idea is to just get some rest and relaxation before the baby comes.
Hope they use condims after the H returns so he doesn’t give her Zika, as it has been reported to be transmitted via unprotected sex for several months after Zika infection.
I didn’t get the impression that this post was against pregnant woman having a vacation. Vacations or not, pregnant women should not go anywhere near the Zika virus because it puts the health of the baby at risk.
I too had never heard of a babymoon until just recently. My son’s figure skating coach, who is in her early 30s, went on one a few months back, however, so now I know about them. Things have changed since I had my kids (18 and 14 years ago). Babymoons are now a thing. I was also shocked to learn, from this coach’s Facebook page, that she was being told that she had to make cupcakes and goodie bags for the nurses! One friend to her she had to because bringing gifts for nurses is “a game changer”. Huh??? They even suggested popping over to the bakery while in labor.
Glad I had mine before this latest wave of craziness.
What’s a “trek” for some is not for others. I was hiking Acadia Mountain when I was seven months pregnant. No problem at all. I also had to fly cross-country when I was 26 weeks pregnant to attend my FIL’s funeral. Who cares what pregnant women do??
The term babymoon has been around for a long time – easily 10 years if not more. I just wouldn’t expect a young twenty-something single guy like zobroward to have heard of it. The broader idea of taking a vacation before baby comes isn’t a new thing either – I didn’t do it, myself, but it’s hardly unheard of.
Lkornad…thank you…I got a kick out of the term “babymoon” . not sure how some people took that and ran off to an entire other place with it… that had me was scratching my head.
garland there is no point or agenda it was a cute concept…not sure what you are asking me!
It’s just a non-story, though. One of my employees is pregnant. We traveled together to Japan, France and back to Brazil in 2015. Now that she’s pregnant, she can still do some traveling for a while til she is medically indicated – but Brazil’s off the list for her due to Zika, that’s how it goes. But it’s just not a newsworthy story. Every single pregnant woman who travels for business has just crossed Brazil off her list. Next?
Z–you said “-today’s new thing I learned about… a babymoon! is that nuts or am I just not with the program?” That is the thing I’m trying to figure out, what about it that you think is “nuts.”
