If you have your own songs on iTunes, try iTunes Radio - it’s the same concept as Pandora or iHeartRadio, but it already “knows” what you like since it “knows” what you’ve purchased already, so you don’t have to exert so much effort in teaching it. I’m fascinated by the differences in what Pandora and iHeartRadio think that you might like based on your preferences - they use very different algorithms.

I think I can figure out when everyone graduated from high school by looking at their songs list!

This is one of those songs that you tune out because you think, oh, gosh, I’ve heard it so many times before - but if you really listen to it, you’ll be amazed by how beautiful it really is. Great choice.

H and I just spent a 2 hour drive listening to all Crosby Stills Nash & Young - great stuff, and also beautiful harmonies. What we like to do is play a song and then I’ll look it up on Wikipedia and read all the trivia about it.

Now for those of you who don’t have $150 worth of iTunes to spend, take these suggestions and go to Spotify and make some playlists!!

As an older contributor (born in the 1940s) I no doubt have a somewhat skewed view and opinion, but I feel moved to contribute, although in somewhat general terms:

Classical

Bach
Mozart
Beethoven (I would probably choose The Moonlight Sonata)

Jazz

Louis Armstring, probably ‘Black and Blue’
Miles Davis, probably from the ‘Kind of Blue’ album
Dave Brubeck, probably ‘Take Five’
Ella Fitzgerald

Popular

Frank Sinatra, probably ‘One for my Baby’
Beatles, either ‘Hey Jude’ or ‘Yesterday’

and, most definitely, Don McLean’s ‘Vincent’, an almost perfectly realized lyric.

A playlist posted by your child on 8tracks.
