<p>My son got his letter today! Only took two days to get to Cinti. from Cleveland–pretty good for this time of year. Accepted, and with more money offered than I thought he’d get! It’s his first choice school so we’re all thrilled.</p>
<p>The “Status Check” for my S still says:</p>
<p>“We have received the materials necessary to review your application for Case Western Reserve University, and your application is under review by one of Case’s admission counselors. We will contact you if we determine that any additional information is necessary.”</p>
<p>However he called admissions today. They said a decision has been made and a letter is in the mail.</p>
<p>No letter received today. We are very confused since all we read on cc is of
Status Check admitance notices and everyone now receiving their letters. </p>
<p>Knowing that the letter is comming without an online update appears very discouraging.</p>
<p>Hopefully they have made an “Admit” decision today and their system hasn’t updated yet.</p>
<p>If ist bad news, I guess they hated his personal stmt/essay. From what we read on cc his stats of 790M/690V/600W, 800Math IIc, 720Chem, 3.7/4.0 GPA UW, many AP’s and ec’s are well above average for Case.</p>
<p>Even if you get a fantastic scholarship of $20,000 a year, the school still will cost $15,000 tuition and then go up from there. That’s still comparable to many OOS public schools. Seems that’s what they are doing, attempting to make finances a non-issue if you’re considering, e.g. Georgia Tech or UIUC.</p>
<p>PLANTREE, your son has an admirable record but the students who have been accepted have pretty good records, too. His 1480/2080 speaks highly of him as does his 3.7UW GPA. </p>
<p>I have been really impressed with the quality of the CC Case bunch. Take a look at the stats of the accepted kids on the acceptance thread . Those stats aren’t very far away from stats at any number of top 10 schools. For those who are not familiar with ACT scores, the 34’s and 35’s are as rare as hen’s teeth. Both are shown by Collegeboard’s own concordance to be well above a 1500 SAT. </p>
<p>I’m not saying this bunch is a representative sample, but it is one heckuva start to the Class of '10.</p>
<p>I’m sure his acceptance letter is on the way.</p>
<p>hmm yeah i was suprised to at the caliber of the applicants. More suprised that they weren’t only applying to Case as a safety either. I guess I’ll probally find out tommorow.</p>
<p>But as to my earlier question, can someone comment about double majoring (computer science and english), and the possibily the rigor and strength of each of the programs.</p>
<p>Insane, Case is one of my D’s reaches ( financial reaches , we need merit aid). Stats ain’t everything. Sooner or later wallet-size enters into the process. With us it was sooner.</p>
<p>yeah i totally understand. When I told my father I was accepted the first thing he said was how much is it. Im really counting on merit and financial aid as well. But isn’t the merit aid based off the stats in the end?</p>

<p>Insane_Membrane, it is the philosophy of the school to allow any combination of double majors, although for some programs it may require more than 4 years or summer classes. Computer science is a good program. Don’t know about English specifically… often the liberal arts are small programs (not a lot of majors) but there is a lot of faculty interaction and advising available.</p>
<p>im having the same trouble as plantree. i live in akron, about 30 minutes away from cleveland and have not gotten anything yet. my status check says they are still reviewing my application. what the heck?</p>

<p>plantree, DS’s online file says the same thing. We are starting to be concerned. Has anyone been rejected? (or deferred, or whatever?) We thought Case was a match for DS.</p>

<p>Insane_Membrane- it’s pretty easy to double major provided, ironically enough, that your classes don’t overlap too much (Case has a rule that you need 30 credits outside your primary major which can be a problem with two very similar diciplines). An English degree takes thirty credits and none of those are really gonna matter for your primary major, so you should be able to do it provided you know from day one that you want to.
As for everyone wondering about the letter discrepancy… rumor on the grapevine has it that this year they decided to not post online if someone was deferred or rejected because they thought it would be “nicer” if they just sent a letter. I hope this isn’t the case but I figured I would mention it as a possible explanation. :(</p>
