2011 Going off their waitlist

Again, when all will be said and done, the list of schools with WL movement will included most if it not all the selective schools. This list will keep growing for many more weeks, and will yield few surprises as a great number of schools under-admitted in April … just as they do every year.

The only question is really about the margin by which schools such as Columbia, Duke, and others that sought April 1 glory, missed the mark.

xiggi what margin do you mean? the acceptence rate or yield? or something else…

a reply to a post on the Bates College wait list thread indicates that the wait list is not likely to be activated this year.

Which colleges underadmitted in 2011?

@JenAn1 Before being admitted to Columbia and Brown I was going to enroll at Tufts hope that helps anyone who is on the waitlist there!

Adding back Harvard which has actually started moving and Columbia CC.

I believe he means that some schools may purposefully admit fewer students the first go round to artificially lower their April 1 acceptance rates.

I think I’ve read xiggi post (or imply) that he thinks Columbia may be a notorious culprit in this regard.

Back to your regularly scheduled broadcast.

^ Columbia must be in very unusual territory this year however, because going to the common app caused quite a surge and many new types of students from many places applied. Going through a new application system for the first time, it would make sense that they may have proceeded fairly cautiously and judiciously. Can’t fault them for that.

Washington and Lee is currently not going to their waiting list. Their current class is over enrolled by around 20-25 kids.

Add Davidson.

accepted off the UW waitlist!

Northwestern has evidently gone to its waitlist, according to a post on the NU forum. And it appears that very few are likely to be admitted from the waitlist.

University of Oregon also going to its waitlist.

Poster on the Virginia Tech board said her daughter and three classmates were accepted off the waitlist last week (5/12).

do schools notify wait listed students if/when the waitlist is not going to be activated or will be closed?

Congrats to all who were accepted!

ugogrrl – I believe most schools do notify students on the WL when the class is “closed” or full. Some schools ask you to indicate how late you are willing to hear from them, because they may have spots open up in mid to late summer. Good luck.

I know that Fordham has gone to its waitlist, I have some friends who got in. Has anyone heard from Colorado College??

Adding Fordham. Thanks cmcanelly11!
