Thank you, Emmybet! Good luck to your D! I am very happy to help out. I have learned so much about all the colleges across the nation from this site and there are some amazingly talented students and awesome parents here. Every single one should be very proud and excited about the journey forward.

DS was part of the Northwestern WL and got the WL is now closed email as well. Glad he tried. On a positive note he is very happy with where he is going and soon this will be a distant memory.

He was not close to his GC so this was our only life line for news the last couple weeks.

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting for final closure. DS has a few friends in the same situation.

HogieOR and perplexity215 - Sorry you got shut out. My son tried to assist all of you as he decided to decline his spot at Northwestern. It was a tough decision for him as NW was always one of his top choices. Good luck with your decisions.

Not really…of all the “Sisters” colleges i.e. Smith, Mt. Holyoke, etc. only Wellesley so far has gone to the WL even for a first round. So not sure if this is accurate.

A couple of days ago Stanford said: “we hit our yield targets and expect very little movement from the waitlist this year.”
How is it possible that in a year with record numbers in applications!!! (and Columbia going to the CommApp) most of the Adm. offices are able to say they increased their yields and that they are not going to the WLs??? please somebody explain (again)…

Is this a list of all the schools that went to there waitlists at one time or another, even though some have now closed and released their waitlists? Or should we be putting something on the line of the schools that have now closed their waitlists/

Real-the number of college spots pretty much stays the same. If applications go from 5 per student to 10 per student then the overall yield across all colleges will go down by half.

Hypothetical example:
1,000 college spots
current 400 applicants 10 applications per person = 4,000 applications/1,000 = 25%
past 400 applicants 5 applications per person = 2,000 applications/1,000 = 50%
