I’ve never heard of this, I’m really interested being an amateur sportswriter. So looking up my school zipcode it says the deadline is 1/07/10 for writing, does it mean there are separate deadlines for different regions?

My happiness and excitement right now is ineffable.

^lol, hunting for awards huh?

IDK my BFF Jill

I’m doing this too.
I was wondering if they had samples from past winners in the writing section because I need to have an idea of what their looking for.

@Facedownclap: Yes, they have past winners’ work if you go the the “Gallery” section on the main website. You can filter the results for just writing by going to the top of the page.

I am going to submit one piece in the humor writing category. I wanted to submit more, but the deadline for my region (CA) is unfortunately way sooner than I thought (Dec. 17) I’m excited though! It’s my first (and last, since I’m a senior) time entering.

@Facedownclap They also publish things with all the winners in it as well it can also be found on their website

I personally wish I’d found out about this contest sooner…

Me too! I only found out about it junior year, but I didn’t have time to write until senior (this) year. If only I had known about it in 9th grade…it would have given me motivation to write more seriously. And there are not really that many arts competitions (vs. science/math/etc.).

^There’s still some time if your doing the Region-at-Large competition. About a month actually (and you could always write during winter break).

No, I don’t think I’m doing the Region-At-Large competition. I entered my school’s zip code (in CA), and it said that the final submission deadline for writing (not novels) was Dec. 17. It’s alright though, I’ll just submit the piece that I’m happy with.

I have a question for anyone: In the list of requirements, it says to “enclose two copies…of each piece of writing you submit” and to “staple 2 copies of the online registration/submission form to the front of each copy of the writing you submit.” Does this mean that if I have one piece of writing, I would have two copies of it with two copies of the submission form stapled to each copy of my writing (four copies of the submission form in total)? That seems like a lot. Haha.

Oh god so many of you are applying.
Definitely have butterflies now.

I’m applying region at large, probably doing senior portfolio. But I might get insane and mad at my range and only submit to two categories.

Yeah, I have butterflies too because of all the amazing people applying. There’s almost no way I can win anything, especially since I’m only submitting one piece and the judges might not find it as humorous as I do. Haha. But you never know until you try.

Good luck everyone! :)

@VirologyNerd Yes, I’m guessing that’s right.

The Region-at-Large competition only awards Gold Keys. Does that make it easier or harder to win a gold key if your entering through the RAL.

Thank you, AppleBeam!

@AppleBeam it makes it harder because they throw out more than they keep

Ooh. Forgot about this contest; it was required by my school. xD

Probably submitting in nonfiction, poetry, short story, and a senior portfolio. Maybe a short short.

Good luck to everyone submitting! :)

Does anyone know if we should put our title on the top of the online uploaded submission?

I just got an email to confirm I can enter. Happy! :)

^What did it say?!
