2011 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

^

"Thank you for your interest in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

You are more than welcome to register for the awards and submit for the competition."

Why? xD

OH!! I thought you said confirming that you did enter and I didn’t get one so i kinda freaked

I did…

Does it bug anyone else that poems have to be in a “collection?” I mean, like, my poem can’t stand alone???

^Poetry sucks teh long stick

^You suck on truffles(=mushrooms=fungi), so shut the f. up.
:D

Collection meaning they all have to be related? I thought it was just your best poetry pasted into the same document.

Is anyone applying from New Jersey? For art?

But virologynerd, it also says:

So for each submission, we copy it and then submit ONE or TWO submissions forms to each copy? Are we supposed to submit two or four submissions forms in total? It’s really unclear!!!

@ quomodo: I live in California too, so I think I can help. You basically need to have four submission forms with each entry, with two for each copy of the entry.

^Are you sure? Cuz it says “ONE on each copy of the submission.” Just wondering where you got your information…

Here, let me copy and paste the email I got from the California Writing Awards:

You guys do know the submission requirements vary from region to region…

Of course they do. That’s why every person submitting entries has to check with their regional affiliate’s website for submission guidelines first.

OK thanks fledgling.

That’s weird that they have contradictory info, but I’ll go with the email you got.

And if we’re submitting in multiple categories, we can include all our submissions in the same folder, right?

I’ll be entering a novel, Memoir, and/or a collection of Poems. I’m thinking that the Poetry section will probably be difficult to win since there are many submissions, but novel will probably be easier (there are usually only around 500 submissions). I’m currently at a writers block. I can’t seem to come up with a cohesive plot for my novel :(.

Yes 10char.

In the frenzy of college apps, just remembered this, ha. I’ve been recognized in past years, but hopefully this year I’ll actually win scholarship money. Submitting in General Writing Portfolio, Novel Writing, and maybe Short Story. Good luck to all :]

I’m so excited to put a portfolio together!

I was actually thinking novel writing would be hardest. Most people who set out to write a novel are either amazing or horrible writers. It’s pretty split in half. Most poetry writers are horrible and think they’re amazing. It’s easy to look good next to so much “my blood is scarlet and the blade of death cool” crap. I don’t think there’s too much competition in the poetry section.

@quomodo: Yeah, I found contradictory info as well re: submission form #. I found that really confusing, but I ended up stapling two copies of the submission form onto each copy of writing.

Hahaa, I made this forum, and I’m just reading all of these replies.

I’m planning to submit for a senior general portfolio, and I need help. Since Im apparently the only creatively inclined person at my school, I am the only person submitting. I got my teacher to make her own account. We were together when she made it. We were confused because there was no possible way for her know where to send her letter of recommendation. I don’t know what I should do with it. I know that the letter isn’t mandatory, but I really feel that it will help me. Thanks!!

PS. I feel sorry for whoever dissed poetry…he/she is missing out.
