2016 and beyond wedding moms and dads (Part 2)

I appreciate the suggestion - that’s definitely the style I’m looking for!

Unfortunately, I typically don’t do well with pointed toe styles, but I have tried two similar Naturalizer styles that didn’t work - the Ginger Slingback and the Jayla Slingback but both pinched in the toe section.

The two pairs I have on order both have a more rounded or square toe box (instead of pointed) and I’m hoping that might fit better?

I have these on order: Harper and these, which are a pump instead of a slingback.

I’ve also tried several other similar style shoes in multiple brands - Trotter, Easy Spirit, LifeStride, Cushionaire, and Easy Street, to name a few!

When I was MOG, I wore a long gown and have some “dressy” black Croc platform shoes that were mostly hidden, which are comfortable. But D’s wedding is during the day and my dress is just past the knee.

It’s very difficult to find wide widths in stores that I can actually try on in person, so am glad I have the online ordering option.

You will look amazing in this dress. Looks comfortable, too.

I got mine for D#1’s wedding in Oct at the thrift store. Sparkly gold sandals that I thought were perfect - comfortable, the right heel, the right color. Perfect until I got home 2 days later and had blisters on my toes. I guess they were rubbing all day and I just didn’t notice. Still have scars from those blisters as they were pretty deep.

For DD#2’s wedding, I found a great pair at Nordstrom rack. Eileen Fisher, perfect heel (about an 1"), closed toe but open sides with a strap around the ankle. They really were perfect and originally $200 but $25 after about 10 markdowns.

From this I learned that sometimes $200 shoes are worth it - although I never would pay $200 for a pair of shoes so grateful for Nordstrom Rack.

Did I throw out the gold sandals? Of course not. I may need them again someday.

Not sure if you saw these ideas in the Dressing Young thread.

Are you sure you need a heel? I have wide feet with lots of issues, and the most comfortable shoes have a V or criss cross strap, never across the top of the foot, and also no ankle strap. But all my dressier shoes are old so not available.

Some possibilities:

If you have a Rack it is an excellent place to at least do a look for shoes for all occasions. You can find some really great brands at decent prices.

There is a Rack about 20 minutes from me. I haven’t shopped there before - I need wide width shoes and petite size clothing - are those typically available?

Re: shoes…I had a sort of fancy (and not very comfortable) pair of shoes I wore to walk down the aisle and for pictures. The second I sat down at my dinner table, those came off…and I had a pair of ballet flats I wore the rest of the evening. Comfortable, and good for dancing.

Thanks - I did see those before.

The dress is a more tailored style (sleeveless dress with a jacket) and I think the first pair wouldn’t go. The second pair might, since there is gold in the dress. I was hoping to find a neutral pair that would go with more styles of clothing, but since I don’t dress up that often that’s probably not important. I was also leaning to closed toe, but perhaps I should consider other styles. Thanks for the recommendations.

Nordstrom Racks can have a decent selection of wide width shoes - more so than DSW for sure. I’ve had some luck over the years at various Racks. Once after wandering the store in a shoe for about 20 minutes, I not only bought it, but went home and found it in another color online and bought that too. My size is 9 1/2 or 10 W, depending. Sometimes going up half a size makes a big difference in comfort. If the toe box is then more comfortable, you can always use a heel pad for better fit if necessary.

I have no idea on petite clothes! But I did often end up buying watches at Nordstrom Racks when trying on clothes got too depressing. Watches always fit!

This style should have some give across the toe box, even with the point. Perhaps going up half a size. Thinking in bone.

I am most comfortable in open-toed shoes for my very long, wide, flat feet. I get a semiannual pedicure and the sandals (orthofeet, men’s sizes; Uggs) come out at the earliest opportunity. What about you, @college_query?

Those are promising - and they even come in an extra wide! I did try a different style from this brand.

I work remotely from home, and while I wear a nice top (on Zoom a lot), on my feet are either slippers when it’s cold, or supportive flip-flops when it’s warm.

I think Rack has a lot of petites, but as with everything there it is hit or miss. Sometimes I’ve gone looking for something like a black cardigan and found nothing, but then I’ll find 10 different white ones.

For my daughter’s wedding, everyone had to wear black and I never found any dresses at Rack to even try on (I’m not a petite but sometimes find petite ‘something’ I can wear; favorite shorts ever were petites as I liked them above the knee and these were supposed to be at the knee). Found a few dresses at Dillard’s, but none I liked better than the $4 one I found at the thrift store, so that’s what I wore (with my $25 shoes).

5 weeks from yesterday. The girls just got back from bachelorette party. The guys went camping and climbing. DH and I are planting flowers and fixing bare spots in the yard today to look a little nicer for rehearsal dinner on our patio.

Earlier this weekend I hemmed DD1’s bridesmaid dress and put a snap at the bust on mine for extra security since it is a wrap dress:

We’re planning on ordering some popcorn from the local theater for cocktail hour. Trying to picture what 30 gallons of popcorn looks like and whether we need one or two lol

DD2 has it all under control. But found a lot of people, who she knows are coming, did not RSVP on time. This week will be follow ups.

30 gal is a yard leaf bag - a lot of popcorn!

I just think it’s worth a try especially if it’s not too far and you wouldn’t mind to not spend a fortune. Another thing I’ve done at Rack with shoes is if I try some on and I like them but am not 100% sure if I NEED them I take a picture of the box (with name, size, etc.) and then I can at least look for those online when I get home.

Or sometimes I’ve done that and found them online for even less somewhere!

I do! I do!

have my dress, DiL just got her clothing sorted out; she will look gorgeous. She chose a pinkish- mauve pantsuit – top is essentially a vest — so now I am looking for a relatively inexpensive pink or mauve cuff to wear. DH and S2 will both have blue/pinkish ties and so with S1 in a medium blue suit, our group photo will look like we knew the assignment. (FDiL flowers are pink). My dress is blue and purple. I know from S2s wedding that my foundation garments are comfy.

Anyway. RSVPs are due next week, then chasing people down happens. I did ask my son if I could know who we are seated with before the wedding. (We have never seen the guest list). My mom’s clothes came and she hates them so those are going back.

My dress looks better with heels but I know I am not good at those so am wearing flats like the MOB. My inlaws continue to live in an alternate travel reality but otherwise no bumps yet. I have calls to make to the rehearsal and brunch food person – can’t decide if I have too much or too little!
