2020-2021 USC Transfer

@dood523 Assuming your gpa is above a 3.7 and your essays are solid then I don’t think they will automatically deny you for one B.

Hi guys, I think USC is having difficulty finding my high school transcript, which I definitely sent on the day of my submission. They said they submitted a request to search for it somewhere in the system, but what are the chances that my application has been automatically discarded in the trash because of the lack of the high school transcript at this point? :confused:

It hasn’t been discarded especially since it just verifies what you include in application, but I would sure be sending another to them if you haven’t already. If a transfer, they may have the info they need anyway and not put much on the HS transcript, but point is, It is the responsibility of both parties to make sure the info is there.

@CADREAMIN Thank you! I think I’ll try sending them a physical copy because apparently they’ve lost all digital copies of my high school transcript that I’ve sent directly to their office up to this point through Parchment. :frowning:

Keep it short and simple, what are my chances to get in? based only on gpa.

2 years at Pepperdine in los Angeles - GPA: 3.5
1 year at Boston college - First semester GPA: 3.96 ( I am applying right now so second semester grades are not out).
Applied to Marshall.

Reasons for transferring: Long story

@teenybee Just to further ease your concern, USC also somehow lost my GED from one application cycle to the next (I didn’t get in the first time I applied). I had assumed it was still on file with the admissions office, but I got an email from my admissions counselor on May 7th letting me know that he needed another copy of my GED. I have no idea if that meant he was just barely getting around to my application, but I would take it to mean that you wouldn’t be auto-rejected or have your application junked just because of some missing high school transcripts.

@thelovebird Your long story might benefit your application :smile: It sounds like you’ve been around if you’ve attended two institutions. Well, it’s hard to say just by your GPA, but you’re likely competitive with the transfer average. More emphasis would have to be on the requirements for Marshall. Have you completed calc/business calc with a decent grade? Knocking out that class with a great grade and still maintaining an overall high GPA pretty much is the most you can do to maximize your chances of getting into Marshall.

@zettasyntax Hi, thank you so much for your response. I actually meant my GED transcript as well (I was just referring to it as a high school transcript to avoid confusion). Well, it seems like they’re notorious for losing people’s GED transcripts, in that case (haha)! Fortunately, they did a search request and it is now showing up as received, so they apparently found it lying around somewhere. Thank you again for your help!! :slight_smile:

@5OnTheHill It won’t let me PM you, I’m not a junior member.

When do decisions begin to roll out?

@dood523 Looking back through the previous threads it seems as though TTP students hear around the end of March/early April while non-TTP hear April-July

@trojantransfer1

And every year, we have no idea why, there is some TTP applicant(s) with a 4.0 or close to it that took all the right things, that I am sure is going to get in, but they end up not finding out until the very end - talking later June or July timeframe. And it is brutal because yes, TTPs have typically been known to find out at the beginning of the notification cycle rather than the end. Even within a few days of the regular decisions. I have PM’d with them a lot during that time, because it makes no sense, but of course they need re-assurance it will work out. And it always has, but wow, nerve-wracking.

Enduring the transfer notification process is not for the weary. So buckle up and plan on later, then be pleasantly surprised if earlier.

@CADREAMIN agreed! definitely having high hopes but low expectations in regards to when we’ll hear back. i know someone with ttp who didn’t get in until july last cycle, so just waiting and praying. we’ve done all we can do so no need to stress ourselves out now!

Anyone know what it would take to get rescinded? Currently have a 4.0 and majoring in electrical engineering. I’m worried about getting a C in one of my major prerequisite classes (Physics 153 equivalent) this semester and maybe a B to add to that (for a class that isn’t really required or anything but its an Electrical Engineering class) so I’m wondering what it would take to get rescinded if I get accepted.

Some additional info: I’m talking two general ed classes along with it (Biology 1 with lab and a philosophy class) so I’m taking a total of 16 semester units this semester, with 3 of the classes being classes with a lab

Hi! I have a question about in-progress transcripts. My situation is a little complicated, and I want to make sure that I send USC all of the proper information. I am currently a Freshman student, and my goal has always been to ultimately transfer to USC my sophomore year. For the fall quarter, I attended UCSD where I intended to stay the year (or longer if USC did not work out.) However, after fall quarter, I ended up having to move closer to home for family reasons, and in trying to find the best option quickly, I accepted an offer to a university close by since they offered me a scholarship (I’m aware I should have gone to a CC but emotions were high and I was trying to find the most stable option). That said, in addition to university classes, I am also taking classes at a local community college to complete as many of USC’s GEs as possible. Because I’ve now attended three colleges, I’m not sure what to do about transcripts. I have already sent official UCSD transcripts, but I have not sent the transcripts from the four year university and community college as the semesters are obviously still in progress. I really want USC to see that I am working hard and taking the bulk of my GEs this semester (i will have all of USC’s GEs except for 2 finished which is the max), and so I want to submit in progress transcripts but am not sure how/where. I have already sent them to my regional counselor, but is there another place to send them to ensure that whoever reading my app knows I will have completed the maximum GE requirement for sophomores? (I am applying to Marshall btw) Should I also submit them as “spring grades (unofficial)” through my portal even though there are no grades, just a list of the courses I am currently taking? I have tried calling, but they are obviously really busy, so if anyone has any info that would be great!! (sorry this is so long !!)

Getting in in June or July also adds the stress of finding adequate housing.

@CADREAMIN

We just found out that my DD was recognized as one of Dean’s List recipients at her current CCC. Should she add this to her portal?

YES! And send a note to her advisor if you can find their email. If not, call admissions and ask for it. Sometimes they don’t have emails on this listing.

https://admission.usc.edu/find-your-counselor/

Just have her say she got this award blah blah blah and remains totally committed to attending USC…concise but expressing interest is a good thing.

Will USC still accept courses from this semester for transfer credit? Most universities have switch to online courses, including labs due to the coronavirus. Some of my professors are saying that the rest of the semester may be given online. From my understanding, USC would not take any language or lab course given online.

Well, the switch to online is new for everyone, and obviously schools will need to adjust things. Your understanding of not taking online classes is based on the world a few days ago. It’s a different world today. You didn’t take an online class, it turned into one. I am sure they are evaluting based on the class it was supposed to be. Like thousands, you will have to see how this all plays out in many ways and situations, but your example should be fine.

Hi, will the USC portal say that all of the materials required are completed or will it just have a checkmark next to all of the items?
Thanks
