2020-2021 USC Transfer

Hey everyone, I am a first time applicant to USC. This is my top choice and I currently have a 3.7 GPA. Do you guys think I have a good shot into being admitted?

oh damn, I guess I was wrong. Thanks for the correction @CADREAMIN . Still expecting Viterbi to release their decisions late

Hey guys! Does anyone know when Annenberg transfer applicants start hearing back?

hi everyone! i’ve been watching this page since i applied to usc this past winter. i was just hoping to meet any other hopeful sophomore transfers and maybe hear some success stories!

i’m a freshman in community college right now, completing 6 units summer 2019 and 13 units fall 2019, and currently completing 13 more spring 2020 (totaling 32 units by fall 2021). i had a 3.35 gpa in high school, but now have a 4.0 and am an honors student!

i feel like i might get a request for spring grades (if they even consider me) because while i have completed 6/8 ge’s and the writing/math requirements, my major requires an econ course i am still finishing this spring. has any other sophomore transfer gotten in without a SGR, or can anyone tell me what the process for that looks like?

I’m in the same boat. I’ve completed the writing/math requirements but still have a physics course I’m finishing.

Is it also required for your major? From what I’ve read so far, if you’re completing a major requirement (or honestly even a sophomore transfer) you’ll get a SGR if they’re still considering you. I’m just curious of how often those SGR’s turn into acceptances…

It is required for my major and I am a sophomore transfer. I would think as long as you received good grades in the spring you’d be accepted.

Does anyone else’s financial aid portal still say, “action required”? I tried to look but it doesn’t tell me what is still required. My other schools have received my FAFSA and my CSS so I’d assume they have it?..

@LNK1999 My FAST portal says “Application in review”. Might wanna call the financial aid office and ask. I think maybe your admissions counselor can help as well. In my case, I got much more help from my counselor than from the financial aid office, but that’s a single case. I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to aid you with any problems you have.

Guys, I have a question: I’m a first-time applicant looking to transfer from a community college with 39 credits (55 with my spring courses) and a 4.0 GPA, but I really don’t like my essays and I have a good feeling that I will get rejected. I’m hoping to re-apply as a spring transfer or even next year if I do get rejected this time. So, in that case, would I be required to ask my recommenders to resubmit their recommendation letters, or will USC have them on record already and pull them up for me? I’m trying to decide whether to let my recommenders know early so there’s no surprise when I do need their letters for my new application. Please let me know if anyone has experience reapplying to USC! Thanks and best of luck to you all

@LNK1999 My FAST portal still says “action required”. I have submitted everything way before the deadline so I am assuming that they have it. I am going to call the financial aid office this week just to make sure.

@teenybee
They only have one transfer cycle a year, you cannot apply to spring so next app would be due next Feb 1st. They would have the letters on file, they will just be a year old at that point. And it’s not like they are super important in a transfer app, they are not even required. It’s likely a little early to ask for new letters from anyone, especially with eveything else going on. And maybe you will get accpeted - that’s still a ways off to know as well. Good luck!

Hey guys! A quick question. On the transfer credit system, do you guys put only the past courses or the ongoing courses as well? I assume it’s the first but just want to make sure lol

Do you think they’re going to be likely to do SGRs with colleges doing P/F option for classes because of coronavirus?

@yjliu put current courses as well as there is an option to put “IP” (in progress) where they ask for the grade you received

Hi all, I made a thread for decisions, as I didn’t see an existing one. Please check it out!

@dunnowheretogo Not entirely sure, I think USC has a P/F policy in place as well, so I’m sure they’ll be understanding of any courses that you were forced to take P/F in (albeit the USC policy is much more lenient). In any case, I think SGR’s are usually for applicants whom Admissions Officers are on the edge about, and the AOs need something to “nudge” them in the right direction and convince them that you fit into the class. Sophomore applicants usually get them because one semester of coursework isn’t enough, but anyone could get them if you have any pending pre-reqs or any crucial major-related courses that USC wants to see the results for.

Take this information with a grain of salt. USC’s holistic review has resulted in some sophomores getting acceptances over SGRs due to some other factor (background/life story, academic history, extensive ECs, essays, etc).

Does anybody know if USC takes more junior transfers than soph transfers? Maybe @CADREAMIN ?

@flygaaaaaaal did you have TTP? and did they ask for your spring grades?

@kimnyongan Interesting question…unofficially and just speculation, I would say juniors may edge a bit because more of them apply and that is the more typical transfer window. But if you look at the stats, they really end up being pretty even.

1450 Transfers
almost 50% are from CCs - so those are likely juniors

The other 50% includes:
-About 450 (30% of total) are legacy so assuming most of those are TTP (although some non-legacy get TTP too)
-UC students (perhaps both soph and jrs.)
-Other colleges - 4 years that decided they made the wrong choice so moving as soph
-Colleges outside of CA and outside of US - I would think more sophs in this group too.

So just making some guesses based on stats - one would think juniors would be way more, but the 30% TTP and other students at 4 years around the country that are likely applying to come in as a sophomore make it pretty close.

So I still think juniors, but not by a huge margin. That’s my best estimation based on scientific data, asumptions and frankly, a a big guess in the end.
