2021-2022 USC Transfer

Things seem to be taking longer than usual this year. I would have said two weeks would have been a good estimate/average time to hear something, but they really have all the way until mid-July to let you guys know at this point. It definitely sucks, but it really seems like they’re behind given that they waited to the last possible day/moment to notify non-SGR people.

Hi zettasyntax, thank you for all the advice you’ve given in the thread. Have you heard of junior transfers coming in, and graduating early? I don’t expect USC to give me much aid. I’ll be a student at Marshall and have completed pretty much all my GE’s.

It’d be somewhat possible, but you need to earn 64 units at USC, so that would be 21 units per semester if you wanted to graduate say a semester early. They charge per the unit after 18 units. You can get some kind of achievement award that will eliminate that and you can take up to 21 units without paying extra. However you can only apply after you have a USC GPA and it has to be 3.75 at a minimum. Taking summer classes would help with graduating early, but again, it’s also pretty expensive. I personally haven’t met a bunch of transfers that finished early.

I’m a community college transfer. If I wanted to join an honors society at USC, and their minimum GPA requirement for applying is 3.50, will they accept the GPA I have from my community college? Or do I need a USC GPA?

Thank you! Looks like I’ll have to be taking 18 units a semester then. Also, do you know how USC evaluates credits? I know they’ll only take in a certain number of credits and I’ll have completed around 85 by the spring semester. Can I pick and choose what transfers to USC? All of them are transferable as I looked at the articulation agreements.

I think they would need your USC GPA.

I had 100 units and they reduced it to about 80 since not all were transferable. Then they capped it to the max of 64. They’ll basically decide for you (like the courses that meet GE requirements, etc.) and cap you at the 64, but any remaining will be available to you as subject credit. For example, say you took calc III but it’s not really required as part of your degree requirements so it’s not counted as part of those 64 units and you want to take a class that has calc III as a pre-req, you’d be able to do so because they gave you subject credit for it. It’s a little confusing to me, but I guess there are situations where it might be useful. If there was something you felt should have transferred over but didn’t, then you can chime in and petition them to give you credit for it.

@CADREAMIN I have TTP as a nonlegacy and got asked for Spring Grades in which I submitted on 5/12 and they opened on 5/14, and I didn’t hear back yet. When do you think I’ll hear back?

Hi, I was offered admission as an incoming sophomore this fall on May 28th. Do I have to complete the Reply Form by June 1st or within two weeks of receiving my offer?

Thought ttp was 3.0?

I just called housing and they said it is very unlikely that any transfers will get housing at this point.

It’s 3.7 for TTP with a little float for those that do the study abroad option as a freshman at USC partner schools. Still not guaranteed, but almost. Wish they did guarantee with a certain gpa.

@lovey8888 ya, that’s what I thought. I wonder if those that found out in April wave got it either. They may not know till later if they did.

You can still apply as it doesn’t cost you an app fee unless you get housing, but start looking around campus. Lots of options super close by.

yeah I think I’ll apply just in case something on campus does come up but I still haven’t been able to get into the housing portal :frowning:

Hey everyone, my appeal letter is 1.5 pages long. Do you think this could be an issue?

font size?

Since there is no transfer appeal process, there really isn’t a length rule, but one page is the recommendation for freshman appeals.

Sometimes less is more, so be sure there isn’t too much blah blah blah. As the saying goes, " If I Had More Time, I Would Have Written a Shorter Letter."

It’s your call thought - you may feel everything in there is important to have in there.
