You will get a TCR - transfer credit report. It can take while.
You have to send in what they ask for - until file is complete you will not get FA summary, so yes it does delay it. They have their own formulas as a CSS profile school so there is generally a lot of info required.
I would get ahead of it and contact your advisor, itās not like it will slip through unnoticed.
@supremenate let me know what your advisor says! I hope it all ends up okay.
Just got off the phone with admissions and they told me it could be mid July until I get a decision. I think I might just withdraw. I canāt get over the SUPER long and drawn out process and the mental toll it takes on students who have obligations to their current schools and deadlines. It just doesnāt give me a welcoming feeling or an indication of a positive transfer culture in general.
I get it. transferring is such an unorganized and strange process. since usc receives and welcomes such a large population of transfers, the chaos is exacerbated tbh
Oh usc definitely doesnāt have a positive transfer culture considering all the stuff they exclude us from. It really sucks tbh
I donāt know if I would withdraw, didnāt you submit your spring grades back in mid may? I think we might hear back sooner than we think. but I definitely do understand your frustration, I live all the way on the east coast so you can imagine how much of a big move that is. and I still have to find housing, find out what Iām gonna do with my car, etc. I wish they were more mindful of that. Iām tired
Hello everyone, I just found this thread and so I apologize if this has already been addressed. But I have been accepted as a Spring 2022 Junior Transfer for the Marshall School of Business.
My biggest concern is being able to graduate on time (my anticipated graduation date is supposed to be Spring 2023) since we need at least 64 credits taken at USC to graduate. I really want to go to USC since it was one of my top choices, but I donāt know what to do for this Fall 2021 either. Does anyone have any advice or know anyone else that was in the same predicament as I am? How were they able to graduate on time? Is there something I can do this Fall to get a start?
Anything would be greatly appreciated since this is really stressing me out. Thank you.
Youād be able to participate in the spring 2023 commencement, but yes, it might be unlikely that youād complete 64 units by then (unless you overloaded on units, took a bunch of summer classes at USC which is $$$). Youād likely graduate in fall 2023, yeah. If you really want to be done sooner, summer classes at USC might be the only way. I started in spring 2016 and my advisor said Iād likely graduate in spring 2018 with all I had to do (none of the major classes I took really transferred over as equivalents). I finished in summer 2017, but at the cost of my GPA. If youāre a junior, you probably donāt have much you could do. Maybe a GE or two if you havenāt completed them, but other than that, you really canāt start working on those 64 USC units you have to take while at USC. My one regret about my USC experience was always how I rushed it. Looking back, it certainly wouldnāt have been the worst thing in the world to be there for the fall. My GPA might have been a bit better too.
BTW for those with an SGR that disappeared, this is what my AO said (she just emailed me back):
āThe spring grades lack disappears once we have received the material we need. Since you submitted your spring grades, your checklist requirement was satisfied and no longer needed to appear. Thank you for your patience as we work through your file, I am hoping you will receive a decision soon.ā
Yes, I totally get your frustration. I submitted my SGR back on May 12. It would be one thing if they could tell us when, but when you call and they say anytime between now and six weeks from now is unacceptable. And then wait on your FA and transfer credits? Where does that put us, August before we have all of the information? I donāt know any other school that operates this way. They canāt blame it on size. They canāt blame it on prestige. I donāt know what it is, but it is slowly becoming a school that Iām just not interested in anymore. My parents are retired professors from a very large and prestigious university and they too are stunned by the lack of organization and attention towards transfer students.
I completely understand your frustration too, if I donāt hear back within a week I donāt know what Iāll do because I have other family commitments for the summer and my life is pretty much on pause right now and I canāt really afford having it put on pause for much longer. I really hope we both get decisions soon. We both submitted them on the same day so I would say we might hear back during the same period.
@CADREAMIN do you think usc will be more lenient regarding the 3.5 GPA conditions this year because of COVID? it seems kinda tone deaf to have such a strict requirement during a year where so much can go wrong.
does anyone know if village housing is available for transfers/ if not what on campus housing options are?
We are also on the east coast. We have some experience with that type of move since my daughter is currently at CSULB (online but was in person for part of her freshamn year) but I HATE waiting until the last minute to plan anything. I canāt imagine what the airfare will be like by the time we get her decision. If she ends up being a spring admit it will give me time to plan. This is very frustrating and she is very stressed.
I hope you hear back soon. I think youāre right about not withdrawing just yet. Iām going to go ahead and have everything in place for my current school and just forget about USC for now. Continuing to stress over this did the next 6 weeks isnāt healthy at all. If and when I hear back, if it works for me, Iāll decide then what I want to do. But for now, Iām going to plan on being a sophomore at my current school.
Thatās what my daughter did. Sheās taking summer classes right now and is fully registered for the fall at her current school. Sheās still super stressed though.
Seriously. Iāve never seen anything like it. What makes USC so completely different in this aspect??? I know people who applied as transfer students to schools all over the country who found out on the exact day they were told they would, with plenty of time to plan and transfer.
Crazy that she has to be stressed over this.
