Very few people from Northwestern matched at Northwestern this year - big goof-up from them.
HemOnc seems to be paying better than cardiology now a days unless it is interventional cardiology. Niece is finishing HemOnc fellowship in Midwest and found a good job in Midwest. She did DO.
At this point, we have told her to choose the one she likes and can see herself spending rest of he life doing that.
I told her she will see sicker patients as a Hemonc than cards but relatively less emergencies.
True, need to like what they are doing otherwise tough. Oncology is tough emotionally
NJMS acceptances are out.
Hello @NoviceDad and other parents, My kid was accepted to multiple BSMDs - Augusta, Mercer, NJIT/NJMS. We are thankful. We are in GA so augusta and mercer are local but strongly evaluating NJIT/NJMS since I believe is higher ranked and better for her overall goal to be a doctor who can have better chances with matching later during residencies etc. What other pros/cons should we be thinking of since costs are going to be pretty much the same across in general given scholarships, aid etc. What are your thoughts, suggestions, advice?
Looks like only Njit. Do drew caldwell and Stevens come out later?
If total costs are the same, I would suggest going to NJIT/NJMS.
Both the undergrad and medical school experiences will be better.
Also, it may be a shorter duration.
Highly recommend visiting NJIT and NJMS and speaking with faculty, admissions and students there. See if she feels at home there.
NJMS sends acceptances in waves.
Agree with this but goal is stay in Georgia after medical school then ranks don’t matter much
Thanks. We did visit during the honors interviews (NJIT was in person) and liked it. Anything specific you meant experiences would be better at NJIT/NJMS? Does the repute/ranking of NJMS help her in the long run even if she wants to return to GA to practice?
I don’t think NJMS reputation helps a lot to find a first job in GA. What’s the cost difference between the programs?
Probably around 6-7k/yr.
It depends on where she does residency and in which specialty. Doing medical school at NJMS does not mean she will do residency there. She can apply to all GA residency programs e.g. at Emory and having grown up in GA can make her residency case stronger.
Fortunately, doctors are valued in every state.
This decision is a catch 22. Kids will be happier away from home during undergrad. Medicine for girls is very stressful and they need a lot of TLC. So if a parent/mother can spend a lot of time visiting/staying it can be anywhere but preferably closer to home. I have noticed the schools themselves dont contribute much to the kids education in the end.
ignore the display. when you click it will take you to the right place.

@srk2017 @NoviceDad @thumper1 After years of clinical work, social advocacy projects, and extensive research, I’m happy to say that I’ve been accepted into 7 BS/MD programs (including the dream-PLME)! Thank you so much SRK, NoviceDad, and Thumper1 for being so supportive in this journey and answering all the questions my parents (also part of this thread) had!
