2024 Decision Thread/University of Delaware

Got the paper acceptance letter in the mail today confirming the 1/24 email. Nice folder! No mention of merit aid. No mention of honors program app decision (portal does say that is still pending). Based on all helpful responses above we’ll keep checking the portal for changes. Being OOS, with other state school honors options with merit, we hope to hear something soon… Really did like the UD campus and was impressed with the Honors Program info session and tour when we visited this fall.

@BenniesMom1 …wait there are students at UD who drink…who knew…lol

?? I hear about them EVERY time my kid works on the weekends after midnight. I see them when I have to pick him up from work at 3:00a.m. AND, when it’s warmer and I’m running around campus, (they’re near a VERY lovely state park!) OMG… I see where they got their #1 party school billing from. They have since dropped to #3 and are quite upset about that. Go figure. I think that’s part of the reason this is low on the kid’s list though they have a really great department for what he wants to study. Anyhoo…

This "drinking business is available on ANY campus in the US so let that not deter you from the wonderful campus that is UD. Just too close to home for my kid. If we lived anywhere but where we do, it probably WOULD be at the top of his list !! So y’all c’mon down… or up ! ?

@BenniesMom1 Weird that your S20 would even apply to UD if he feels that way. Did he apply? Or are you just hanging out on your local U’s thread?

I don’t think there is anything weird at all about applying to your local uni even if it isn’t on your top list of choices. It’s a pretty standard practice for lots of kids.

And pretty common for lots of parents to hang out on the forums for the schools their kids applied to. (Probably more so than the kids themselves!)

@sapmom @BenniesMom1 Totally agree…the in-state flagship application is prudent for any resident of DE. Nothing wrong with applying even if it isn’t top choice.

So, no, @bigmacbeth it’s not really weird to apply to your local flagship university.

What do you mean by "if he feels that way’? What way exactly are you referring to? Yes… he DID apply and already accepted. As @sapmom mentioned, it IS pretty standard practice for kids to apply to their local State University… nothing weird about that. It’s a GREAT program and a great school. He’s going in as an instrumental music major and already takes lessons with the professor AT UD, is already IN the UD Wind Ensemble and has been in the music "community’ there for 5 years + now. The reason it’s NOT on the top of his list is because technically, he’s already “there” and it wouldn’t be like he’s going OFF to college. However, it IS a very viable option if the other schools he applied to do not match, financially, what he would get if he goes to UD.

My sentiments EXACTLY !! Thanks @sunnyschool and @sapmom .

@BenniesMom1 thank you. I wonder why it’s just for commuters. I thought that it would be easier to do a plan rather then making sure we’re giving her enough money (until she’s working) to be able to go out once or twice a week with friends.

I think they DO have a plan that would allow that… I believe it’s on the flex dollars or something like that, where it’s like a debit card that a parent can load with $$$… It even might be a part of the general meal plan where it’s loaded with flex dollars they can use outside their dining hall. (OMG… I went on a tour and for the life of me don’t remember a dining hall ! Goes to show how much I paid attention… or didn’t as the case may be. I think I was just thinking that if my son DOES go there, I’m sure he’ll pop in and out for food HA !) For the amount of kids that frequent the Trabant Center, there MUST be some kind of flex $$ plan they can use there. That place is ALWAYS packed ! They accept those flex dollars at some of the local restaurants (not sure about the ones on Main Street) but the couple in the little strip where my kid works do.

So sorry @BenniesMom1. I must have misinterpreted this comment of yours. I thought it sounded kind of snarky when I first read it:

Here’s what I mean by “if he feels that way”:

@sunnyschool re-read my comment and you’ll see I didn’t say what you think I said.

@BenniesMom1 I was joking as you know. And yes there are kids that drink at most schools in the USA. With a large public university like UD students who aren’t interested in partying will find other like minded students. I agree that UD is a beautiful campus in a great location and with quality academic programs. I would love for my D21 to end up there.

Daughter’s portal just updated with “decision released: Jan 30” but no new decision. Looking forward to something at 5pm! We’re still waiting on honors and World Scholars.

@sapmom Thats what happened to me before I got accepted into Honors! Best of luck to your daughter

Thanks! Her portal updated right at 5pm! But she’s in the middle of something (she’s studying abroad right now) and can’t look for a few more minutes, so I have to wait for her to check it. Thanks, kid.

It was her World Scholar acceptance! Rome, Italy!

Does anyone know if more acceptances will come out tomorrow?

Still waiting on decision to nursing. It’s been 10 weeks. Getting nervous for my daughter. She was accepted to Penn State nursing, but Tennessee accepted her, but not to nursing program so I’m worried about Udel because I’m sure it’s competitive. Her stats are 3.92 uw, 1290 sat, strong ec and leadership, 6 AP’s, 5 honor societies. Anyone have any info on how hard admittance to nursing is?

Does anyone know how competitive UDel’s engineering program is? It has a good ranking but also how is it?
