2024 Decision Thread/University of Delaware

Hearing from my son’s friends March 31st. Not sure what major you’re in but they are all Engineering majors who said that. He’s a music student and already accepted.

Daughter was notified about Delaware Honors acceptance last night. Trustees scholarship 17k. Very happy! Anyone here w experience in their Honors civil engineering program?
Also considering Buffalo, still waiting on Schreyers (Penn St) & GA Tech. TIA

can you post a link to the groupchat?

Is anyone considering switching from business to a different major who was deferred to regular decision? My DS was told too many people applied into that major.

We switched our DS to a second choice of University Studies instead of Business Undeclared. Counseling said that it may give him a slightly better chance if he is rejected from his first choice of Management being that if he wasn’t good enough for the business management program, they may not take him in the business program at all. I’m not sure if this was the right decision, but that’s what we did.

Hi,
My DS switched 1st choice to poly sci and left 2nd as is. So he deleted business undeclared . It’s a real bummer . In the end he will have to decide if major or school is more important. He already got into several schools as a business major but none excite him. Very worried if he does get in that they don’t notify until mid April which is so late and he will miss the accepted students visit!

My son was OOS 3.2 GPA 25 ACT, and he got into the business schools in Albany and Rhode Island, what were your son’s stats, so I can compare whether him deleting business undeclared was a good choice, if you don’t mind. In addition, there is no way to change anything back now, so I wonder if it was a one-shot deal or decisions have been made.

Hi, he doesn’t want me to share stats but they are slightly higher but not much. I think business is hard period. I told my son that he could maybe minor in business or take classes and then get his MBA. The reality is grad schools want diversity for MBA candidates . They love poly sci students. He may hate it who knows but I know many kids who were business majors and regretted it . Macro and micro economics? Yikes lol. Also, most big universities make you pick three “schools” like Syracuse . UD didn’t say to pick different schools. Hope this helps .

Okay so if your DS’s are slightly higher and he was deferred from business undeclared, maybe it was a good choice for mine to change his to University Studies, since they will probably decline him in the business school. Finger’s crossed. But I wonder why it is now unchangeable; if that means something.

I think OOS with our DS’s Stats is challenging for business. I wish he would have changed it sooner but we were getting nervous. UD Has been a top contender from day 1. Checks all his boxes . Please keep me posted . Best of luck !

Kind of late, but here are my stats:

Weighted GPA: 4.3
SAT/ACT: 1340 SAT; 31 ACT
Out of State (Maryland)
Major: Medical Diagnostics Pre-Physician Assistant
Accepted into Honors and Global Scholars
Recieved trustee scholarship

Accepted but not committed

Hi,
anyone know when the next round of decisions are being released?
TIA

@arliegirl I got deferred as a business major, so I switched to University Studies (The undeclared type major). I don’t know what that will do for me in terms of getting in or not but I am definitely comfortable with it and the process to change was extremely easy.

Best of luck. Not sure what it means for my DS either as he switched this week from business undeclared to poly sci to increase his chances . I feel that this school is ridiculously difficult to get into if you aren’t the top of the class . It’s unfortunate cause they will be missing out on some amazing students if they reject the ones who work hard but don’t have 4.0’s. My DS got into some great schools for business and waiting on syracuse and UCONN. Now we wait some more …

My D was deferred. Does anyone know if senior year grades need to be self reported or do they need an official transcript?

Official transcript, but if deferred, and you think sending in Mid-Year grades would help, (it did with my son at a couple of schools) , then I would self-report those followed by contact with admissions. Anything else you can send won’t hurt either… Awards, etc . Good luck to your D.

DS was deferred, requesting miD-term grades. His GC automatically uploads mid-term to all of the schools he applied to. UD showed the uploaded grades on his portal within hours (overnight) of her doing the upload. He did not SR.

That’s what to do if they requested the midyear grades . Doesn’t sound like in @jmsstb ‘s case that the request was made ?

Good luck to all the deferreds. Didn’t realize it was that tough getting into UD. We’re In-State and have a clear pathway in , so to speak. I really wish there was a way folks could give up their spots and give it to one of the deffered. Unfortunately, it’s not that simple . My son and most of his friends have acceptances and have no intention of going there ( too close to home ) so that should open up some spots , if that helps any.

Good luck to all !

@BenniesMom1
Sorry I should have clarified. UD did request mid year grades but my D’s letter didn’t mention if they want self reported or an official transcript.

@BenniesMom1
I think students can decline an acceptance and that opens up spots. My older daughter is a Junior at UD so we figured my younger daughter would get in no problem but that wasn’t the case.
