2024 Decision Thread/University of Delaware

The problem is most kids don’t decline until 4/1 then it becomes late in the game. UD said the will notify us by mid April. That’s insane.

Our HS sent the official transcript. We did not self report mid year grades but they were sent.

General rule of thumb then… IF a school specifically asks for grades, mid-year or whatever, then it should come officially from the school. I know UD uses SAR for the applications but at some point, those ARE verified with official school transcripts which have to be send towards the end of the year or something. So I’d ask your D’s counselor to send them.

True. That’s because they’re waiting for financials from the other schools they’re trying to go to. If it’s too much there, they want the flagship school as a fall back. In our case, he’s already setting up shop elsewhere with a great package, but inadvertedly clicked on deposit to see what it was and now he can’t undo it. He’s sent several emails to decline enrollment but there’s been no change on his portal. It’s been a good while too so… And yes. It IS insane to notify folks by mid-April. That certainly puts students in a precarious position and having to scramble for other choices by the May 1st deadline.

Has anyone checked to see how may folks get off the Wait List historically? That info is posted somewhere (can’t remember where I saw it) so it’s public info. That might help in making a decision.

Wait, are we talking about wait list or deferred? If they wait until mid April for defers, my DS is going to commit to somewhere else.

That’s what we were told yes for deferral “mid April at the latest .” It’s less than ideal. Hoping they don’t wait that long.

Has there been anyone that was deferred and has since been accepted yet? My DS deferred as well and of course this is his top choice!

My D was deferred in early December (UofD is one of her top choices as well). We are in state. Have not heard anything. She has a friend who was deferred as well that hasn’t heard either.

The waiting is tough!

It depends on the major . My son is a Music major in-State and wasn’t deferred . His friend , with MUCH better grades and scores going into Engineering WAS deferred but was given a date of March 31st to find out . Not sure if she called and was told that or it’s a date that was advised in the deferral notification . Either way, that’s crazy late to get a decision.

Good luck to you all waiting. It’s tough for sure . I know I’d be going bonkers about now if we didn’t have his top choice already pretty much closed out . Still waiting on one if the PASSHE schools to see what they come up with in financial aid but doubt it’ll be more than he’s getting .

Hang in there folks . Your kids WILL end up where they’re meant to be .

My daughter who was deferred in December just got in tonight !! She’s super happy as Delaware was her first choice. Does anyone know if any merit scholarships/financial aid stuff comes in the acceptance letter or do we still have to wait a bit for all that? Thank you and good luck to everyone else !

Congrats on her acceptance!!! My cousin was just accepted regular decision a couple of weeks ago and her financial package was posted on the portal this week!!! May I ask what major your daughter applied to?

Best wishes to her!!!

Thank you! And she originally applied as Pre-vet, but then when she got deferred due to its competitiveness she switched to her second choice animal science. She figured she’d have a better chance at getting in for that than pre-vet, and told me she could simply switch back to pre-vet once she got in

Great thinking on her part! Glad it worked out for her!!!

Is there anyone here still waiting on a decision?

Yes after a deferral and a major change . They said could be until mid April. We hear from the rest of his regular decision schools by Friday . They are gonna miss out on some great kids .

Congrats ! Not so sure about switching back. Make sure you find out before your DS commits. We were told it’s not that simple.

Ah, she plans on switching after she commits and once she’s tried out the major for a week or so. Who knows, maybe she’ll end up liking animal science better and not want to go back to her original pre-vet, lol !

What I mean is the school may not let her switch into a popular major . We were told for business it’s next to impossible . It’s all stressful .

ohh i see, we’ll definitely look into it then. thank you for the heads up!!

I hear the same thing so it’s definitely worth checking into @blazerkitty5 . I hear for some majors it’s next to impossible or you end up losing a year. I believe you HAVE to stay in a major for a year or something before changing. This is to avoid people choosing an easier major to get into when applying and then switching a few weeks after starting school. Makes sense, I guess, but I’ve never seen it as rigid as here. So yea… check before starting and make sure it’s something she can and WILL want to stick with.

Good luck to all of you coming to my neighborhood while my son heads out of it. Ahhh the irony. But we’ve always heard that Delawareans don’t realize what a great school their flagship school is and they’re mostly trying to get out of DE. It’s a shame, really. BUT, it DOES leave room for those from OUT of state who want to get in.
