2025 Waitlists- expect movement (read why) and list them here

Congrats! Can I ask which state/region? Thanks!

My daughter’s friend got off the waitlist at Georgetown on Friday, 100 percent confirmed. She’s going.

So exciting to see so much WL movement so early in the process. Summer melt should also be active. Congrats to all and keep reporting in here!

For anyone waiting on ND, someone on Reddit contacted the admission office and they said they have already admitted a few students yesterday. Here’s what the post said:

“gonna make a post here to ease everyone’s minds. i emailed nd and they said they’ve alr admitted a couple yesterday/today (idk what they meant by today). They also said that they’re hoping to send out more offers by mid may. So the waitlist movement is moving mb just less than expected :)”

Gonna assume that is Notre Dame and not North Dakota!!

Yup, Notre Dame. Sorry for being vague.

Since there does seem to be so much waitlist movement, I wonder how that will affect colleges in terms of planning for the fall? I know that waitlists are generally designed for the benefit of the college, but if they let a waitlist kid in on May 5 who then drops a different school that picks up a waitlist kid who committed to a different school, and on and on, it seems as though the musical chairs activity could be potentially as problematic as the yield projections they were trying to do with their initial offers to students. Waitlists seem beneficial if there are only a few students being moved off the waitlist, or if there are only a few schools using waitlists. But the more pervasive waitlist usage is, the more I question its benefits for colleges as a whole.

The musical chairs has always been part of the WL offers. What seems a tad different this year is the short, time-limited “exploding offer”. Have previously only seen that in job offers! My guess is, as students find and settle into their acceptances, including those who get into desired schools from WLs, the acceptance of WL spots will drop off as students pay their deposits at other schools, find roommates, make move-in plans, etc. There are always those who will hold out for a strongly desired school, but my guess is that many WL offers will ultimately be declined by the students (as several have posted in this thread).

Last year, per this site/list, there were many active WLs and some went very deep into their list, while others took none.

Someone on the Wake page reported getting off the WL today.

Received an email from Tulane that they’ve admitted 45 students from the waitlist and have ‘exceeded’ their enrollment goal.

So, likely not much more movement going forward.

Congrats to your son! Do you mind sharing if he applied for financial aid at Wesleyan?

Thank you! No he didn’t, we are fortunate to be full pay.

Can I ask what major at Cornell CALS?

They did add that if there were any additional offers, they have exhausted their FA so offers would not include FA (I am paraphrasing but that was the gist).

which college ? CAS? do you mind to tell which region the girl is from?

My kid got off 2 WL in 2016, and the norm then was 36 hours to make a decision. His CC explained that this was became the college needed to fill spots, and if someone’s couldn’t commit, the offer would go to someone who could. Definitely the norm a decade ago.

Fwiw, this is why I recommend that people ONLY accept WL offers from schools they seriously consider to be superior to any offer they currently have.

Yea 36 hours is a tight response time. But, in some cases, 36 hours is generous! I read that one student was contacted by a school (I won’t name it) at lunchtime and told they had to give an answer by 9am the next day!

just purely wondering if any international student got off the waitlist of any of these colleges mentioned above?
