Also see evidence of Brown wl movement. [kid changed instagram commitment post from another school to Brown]
edit: I realize in re-reading it this does not seem like firm evidence but knowing the behaviors of dc at these schools and the comment written with the post basically confirms it’s a move off the wl.
My child is on the waitlist for a smaller school (3,000-ish undergrads) that is need-blind for admissions but need-aware for the waitlist. He wrote the LOCI and did all the things…but he needs aid. Does anyone have any insight into how much this hurts his chances?
It’s impossible to say. Need blind schools that become need aware for waitlists often do so because they typically don’t have much in the way of financial aid dollars left at the point they would be going to the waitlist…so it can depend on where they stand with respect to their financial targets as well as what types of students they need to round out the class from the waitlist. These things are impossible for outsiders to know, not to mention each year is different at a given school.
I would encourage your kid to be excited about the school that they are planning to commit to by May 1. Good luck.
It is certainly possible that the admitted tuba player and sculptors (or whatever desired profile of admitted applicant) declined admission before the May 1 deadline.
It seems like there are varying degrees of transparency when it comes to waitlists, depending on the college. Do you know if kids admitted before May 1 would be factored into the “waitlist numbers” since it’s before the deposit date? Meaning, if they took 5 before May 1st from the waitlist, would schools label it as such? Are waitlisted students who gain acceptance included in acceptance rate numbers/yield rate numbers?
Not sure if you would know, but you are always so knowledgeable in your posts!
I know you directed this to someone else and I don’t have 100% knowledge of the methodology but the CDS categories are “Applicants offered a spot on WL”, “Applicants accepting spot on WL”, “Wait-Listed students Admitted”.
It has nothing to do with the criteria being before a specific date.
These are all good questions!! It varies how schools capture these numbers, so one would have to ask each school how they handle pre-May 1 waitlist numbers. I also think it’s inconsistent in the CDS whether or not the reported waitlist students are included in accepted numbers or not (they should be in the enrolled numbers though.)
Just copy/pasted and added. I saw UNC twice and fixed that. Am hopeful people will copy/paste and add to the list any updated info and would appreciate any help in removing any duplicates!
