I had not seen anything from UVA to indicate they had gone to the waiting list. So, I was surprised that people were saying they had already gone to the waiting list. Thanks for posting this. Dean J is very good about keeping people informed.

I think it would be a good idea to have something official from the schoolā€™s admissions office about a waiting list before posting here. And to cite the source of the info.

Confirming NYU waitlist movement. My daughter just got admitted to NYU yesterday. Engineering, Spring 26 start. We will be declining.

Admission offices sometimes donā€™t like to publicly release this type of info. Example, in this thread, UVA says they havenā€™t gone to the waitlist, while apparently there are IRL reports from counselors to a longtime poster and counselor of people getting off the UVA waitlist.

Echoing this. IME most schools do not announce on social media, blogs, etc that they have started taking students from the waitlist. I tend to believe counselors when they communicate that one of their students was taken off X waitlist. Of course, itā€™s possible the student wasnā€™t truthful, but thatā€™s unlikely. Again IME.

Although it would seem awfully aggressive, unethical, and downright bizarre for the UVA Dean to go out of their way to rebut information that was actually correct.

As others have suggested, sometimes offering a student an acceptance before the May 1 deadline could be ā€œconstruedā€œ differently. Or maybe a post was made before the first offer was sent. Ir maybe itā€™s true. Wo knows. @michaelcollege mentioned heā€™d heard it too.

But no need to beat this to death.

Iā€™m inclined to believe the AO from UVA if she posted today that they havenā€™t gone to the waitlist.

It seems extremely unlikely that Brown has gone to the waitlist already. Itā€™s only mid April.

I can 100% confirm that UVA took at least one student from the waitlist 24 hours before the post from the AO.

From the senior associate Dean of admissions, today: We have not gone to the waiting list. We always post updates on the admission blog and add a note to the waiting list page our website when we make offers.

Is it more likely that there was misinformation, misinterpretation, or misunderstanding? Surely if she is lying, it will come back to bite her and reflect poorly on UVA.

I can only account for 1 off waitlist on the am of April 16th. I canā€™t comment on the social post. No misinformation, misinterpretation, or misunderstanding.

I donā€™t think this would be odd, not to mention we have a CC student reporting they were taken off the waitlist the other day.
