If you are a counselor, you surely know about reconsideration. It’s a holiday for me, but I would like to talk to you Monday morning. Please give the office a call.
UVA has not gone to the WL.

If you want to call it “reconsideration” there is no need to discuss. Thanks for your participation on CC.
Sorry, this site doesn’t work well on mobile, so my attempt to expand on the answer might be lost.
If you are a counselor, you surely know of cases where something (residency change, significant new info, etc) could affect one student’s application. That it is not be a sign of a different phase of the admission process beginning.
Thanks for clarifying.
I will edit the wiki with regard to the clarification. Adding, someone else beat me to it.
Please don’t believe anything on Reddit either. Lol. Every year some say they’re accepted and proven wrong.
It would help if those posting school names also included a link or other indication of how they know (link to post on these forums, personal knowledge of student admitted off the wait list, etc.) and (if applicable) what division/major the wait list admit was admitted to.
That happens here as well. And really everywhere. I know a kid who told her classmates she was accepted to multiple Ivies, in September!
I’ve already posted this, but that was me and it was a mistake. I misunderstood the purpose of the list. I have no knowledge of anyone moving off the waitlist for those two schools, I was just hoping to add them in case someone could add information to the extent that they have it. I’m slowly backing away now…
If anyone is calling out Dean J, then back it up with hard evidence.
UVA has one of the most timely and transparent Admissions Offices of all US universities - let alone, most honorable!
Anyone who follows Dean J’s admissions blog or her other social media communications knows this.
As should all college counseling professionals who comment on UVA’s admissions activities.
If a waitlisted person gets accepted because they presented “significant new information,” that is something worth sharing on CC.
I’ll assume we’re done discussing one-off exceptions at UVA (or any other university), or defining whether they really are exceptions; that’s not the purpose of the thread.

I thought I had responded to you (this) but I think I did not. I completely agree with you. Colleges use enrollment management tools (as I said in the OP) to help them build their classes. In the past, many colleges struggled with making too many admission offers and subsequently over-enrollment that caused problems with housing, class size/space, you name it. And now there seem to be not only more enrollment management programs, but they are more finely tuned. So it makes complete sense that school will be more cautious in making offers of admission and then go to their waitlists to fill their class. First of all, not only does this help them plan for their incoming students and do budget planning, but a lower acceptance rate (and higher yield rate) is something colleges like to show. And as we have said, this year in particular, with the financial volatility and uncertainty about visas, more than ever schools will go to their WLs to fill out their classes. Some may go deep into their WLs and others may take fewer, but its highly probable that WLs will be extremely active this year. This is already demonstrated by the activity we have already listed in the wiki list and its not even May 1 yet!
Anyone heard from CU Boulder?
A CC poster was accepted off the waitlist for Purdue today.
Here’s the link!
So even the schools state that they won’t make wait list decisions until May 1 are taking kids off the WKL now?
I’m not sure to which school you are referring?
CC posters were accepted off the waitlist from UCLA this morning.
