I know we’re talking about 2025, but in 2024 this happened. Close friend of our kids was admitted to Brown off the WL prior to decision day.
If trends are clear, or very niche-y gaps have emerged, there’s no need to wait. They didn’t wait last year, at least for the kids in question. This is an “I know them first-hand” report. We’re close to the family.
My daughter was taken off the WL at Pitzer on Monday 4/14. Leading up to that she had received another message asking her to indicate if she was still interested in being on their WL and welcoming her to send in another LOCI or any other updated materials. She decided to submit another LOR from a different teacher. That was on a Friday and she received a call from her regional AO the following Monday.
I respectfully suggest that we update the wiki only when we have first hand or close second hand information about WL acceptances, as online sources are very unreliable.
Were the Rutgers WL movement reports reliable?? Can you inquire from the posters there where they got their info? If it is first hand or close second hand info it would be helpful to have added here. Looking forward to your reporting back what you hear from those in that fbk group. Thanks!
Maybe it depends on the nature of the FB relationship, but it seems to me that a FB post might be 1st or 2nd hand info that would be helpful to add the thread.
I also think it’s ok to a school from a FB group, provided there’s some level of trust there. I want to reiterate that the vast majority of colleges do not make an announcement when they start taking students off the waitlist. The only information we get that there is movement typically comes from students, parents, high school counselors and/or independent counselors. I would add Rutgers to the list, but defer to OP.
Do I believe the report? Yes. It was a parent noting their kid got off the waitlist and is comparing Rutgers to Binghamton. It is not a person that I know directly - it’s a large FB group. But it seemed reasonable, and I thought folks here might want this information. I’m happy to defer to whatever the group wants to do. Feel free to edit the wiki again accordingly.
Great news! Please add that to the list if it isn’t there.
I also gave a bit more thought to having to ask someone in a facebook group if their info was reliable. That seems like that could be uncomfortable for both the person asking and the person being asked. I think if the group is a reliable group (and maybe parents sharing about their kids) we should trust that. So I am glad the Rutgers WL report was added. Personally, I am more comfortable sharing info if it is reasonably reliable than sitting on news until it’s stale. It can always be removed if found to be inaccurate/premature.
