2026 college football (and volleyball) thread

That seems like it would be a pretty competitive game. Which is your team? I’ll cheer for them!

I LOVE college vball and am going to the UT/Bama match tomorrow.

At this point, unless they are playing Purdue, we root for Northwestern ; )

Yeah, I made the Purdue connection from your name, but I don’t know enough about the Big Ten to know whether there was an obvious alliance/rivalry (other than OSU and Michigan, of course!). Go, Wildcats, it is! And I once went to a conference in Evanston so I have a tiny connection there, lol

Last night, I watched the Northwestern-Penn State game played in the new Ryan Field.

Wow, what a beautiful stadium. Congrats to the Northwestern students, faculty, administration and fans. Well done!

After watching warm ups I’m not optimistic for an NU win. We have a brand new team.

I see they are up in the second set and the first wasn’t a blowout so fingers crossed.

We won the second set!!

I hope you get hooked! I think rally scoring like they do in college is so exciting and nerve-wracking.

Michigan sucks this year. No nicer way to say it.

Oh well. It was still fun!

Will be interesting to see if Whittingham has the courage to bench Underwood with his ~$10M-$12M Michigan NIL collective deal.

Your comment on the huge NIL payment made me think about how NIL has wrecked sports and in some cases, experiences.

Don’t get me wrong - we want our kids to get internships ,etc. and are glad if they get paid a fair wage. So everyone is within their right.

But the large amount made me think of Jaden Rashada, the QB star who signed at Florida, which reneged, and he sued. Since, he’s been at ASU, UGA, Sacramento State and now Mississippi State, where he’s not playing. In fact, he barely played at ASU and Sac State and didn’t at UGA.

The entire NIL thing - in these kind of cases stink. Sure, he’s likely got more money than I ever will but what kind of college experience has he had?

It has been his choice to continue to transfer to try to find playing time. I assume playing football is the college experience he was/is looking for as I expect he still has NFL dreams.

Yes it does stink when a college/coach/booster commits fraud by telling a HS’er that they will receive $X in NIL money and then the adults in the room pull it. It’s not public what the settlement price was.

Note that Rashada has two more years of eligibility after this season. I expect he will transfer after this season too, unless Kamario Taylor, the current QB transfers or has a bad injury.

I was so surprised last night at the volleyball game to see all the transfer students in the roster. Other than a couple of players, NU has an entirely new team. I hate that!

Two more ? At 23. Wow. Hopefully he is learning in practice. And hopefully he earns a degree although many schools have a minimum residency.

No question UF hosed the young man. I know he’s settled. I hope it’s for millions.

The transfer impact in volleyball has been big! I am also an NU fan, and like this coach more than Shane Davis. Notably, Nebraska had zero players transfer out or in for this season.

The football impact has been even larger…24 Iowa state players followed their coach to Penn State last year (55 total Iowa State players left), and 12 Penn State players followed their coach to Va Tech, (50 total PSU players left.)

One of my friends is a die hard PSU alum/fan and said she basically doesn’t even see the current team as ‘her’ team.

5-0 Montana State v. 0-4 Idaho ending

Lots of debate about the timeout…

If I’m reading your comment and the article right, the Montana State coach did his team wrong ? Perhaps he was worried his D wouldn’t be set for the final play.

He said he called a timeout to get his defense set, but Idaho was out of timeouts and could not spike the ball to stop the clock with only one second left.

I think the argument is that Idaho had to rush up to the line and get the snap off ASAP as the clock would have restarted after the chains were set for the first down on the referee’s signal.

The timeout gave the Idaho offense the chance to call a designed play, but more importantly the ability to take their time and catch their breath, rather than having to sprint 25 yards down field, getting set and hoping to get the play off before time ran out.

Of course if the MT State coach did not call the timeout and the same sequence of events took place, he probably would have been criticized for NOT calling the timeout.

Ds2’s gf is a Montana State alum so I’m bummed for her.

Saw UT beat Bama today. Man, so many service errors on our part. Frustrating, but a win’s a win. Now, I have to concentrate on the Red River Rivalry on Saturday. OU seems to be struggling, but all that is out the window for this game.
