is it ok if both my letters of recommendations are from teachers from my 9th and 10th school?? I moved to a local junior college for 11th and 12th, and none of the teachers here can speak, much less write english…am quite sure they don’t know what “letter of recommendation” means…

Yes,its okay. But your 11th/12th teachers can write the letter in their own language and you can provide the the translation alongwith. This is acceptable.
I would recommend that you have atleast one from your 11th 12th teachers.

College websites recommend that they “prefer” the LOR’s to be from 11th/12th teachers but if it’s a problem, you can explain it in the additional info.

lol the only problem is my 11th-12th college would ask me money for any sort of letter…hence my preference to the school…

Technically, they shouldn’t do that.Just write it on your own and get them to sign it if the situation’s so bad. That’s what students at a lot of good schools are forced to do too.Where are you from?

I was for 11 years in the same school and then had to transfer since the school was till 10th. I’m getting one letter from previous school and the other from the new one. I’m explaining this on the additional info part.
It’s gonna be all right.

hey speaking of letter of reco’s any set format or something to follow while writing one(have to write it myself) ?
thanks

Nope. You can write in any format you want. Its not even a letter, tbh.Dunno why that’s the name. It’s just a lot of statements about you.Good ones.

Yeah, that’s true.

For the commonapp colleges - there is a format …
For others - nope

On a related note …
Can I send my supplements online and the recommendations, transcripts by mail ( commonapp colleges ).

If yes, then how ? There’s no link on my commonapp form where I can print the LOR format form etc.

What r u guys doing ? Sending online ?

Assuming that YOU wud b writing your LOR

Don’t go by the online method bcoz in this way u’ll have 2 ask ur teachers to provide u with their commonapp id passwords so that u can fill the letters
And the counsellor’s too… coz counsellors upload the transcripts.

If it’s ok then sure … go ahead … online would be much better .

As for ur question … Dunno … Anyone here who has done supplement online and trans, LOR by mail ??

Saw on CMU website - This is the commonapp format.
www.cmu.edu/admission/forms/2011/commonapp/Teacher_Evaluation.pdf

Almost 99% of Indian students submit their app online and transcripts etc by mail.

OK so … say i wanna send by mail then from where can i get that teacher recommendation format that the commonapp has …
To mail u wud hav to print it na …
Or is the format just for online applications and not for those sending LORs by mail ?

So click on ‘print’.What’s the problem?

There is no ‘print’ button on commonapp ( Is there ? ).
They just ask for your recommenders and counsellors email address so that they can send it to them ( The invite official button )
You can’t even see the recommendation format. I just saw it from the CMU website ( compscifan link ).

Maybe I’m wrong.

@perfectpixie - Have u filled it out yet ?

Tsk Tsk.Google it for the PDF format.

No.

EDIT-You haven’t seen the commonapp properly yet? You’ve only seen it through compscifan’s link? Are you applying next year?

Please always read the complete info they mention.
There is a ‘print button’ FYI.

This comes directly from my commonapp website account :

You must enter one Counselor (who will complete the Secondary School Report and other forms for you) and at least one Teacher (who will complete the Teacher Evaluation for you.) You may enter an unlimited number of teachers and assign them to any colleges you’d like, but only one Counselor may be invited. Fields with a yellow dot are required and must be filled in prior to submission of this form. To ensure your information is saved, please click the Save button at the bottom of the page. After saving, those school officials with email addresses will receive an email inviting them to send your recommendations online or via mail, whichever they prefer. If any of your school officials choose to mail their forms, you will need to return to this website to print paper forms for them to mail.

This definitely clears things. ok ?

K. Thanks a lot …

Yup . Next year …
