I have a question about the Multi-Factored criteria SDSU uses for freshman admissions. I’ve seen mention several times that this criteria includes “preparation towards intended major (courses and GPA)”. Does anyone know how SDSU quantifies this? Do they look at the # of a-g courses taken within a general subject field (history/social science, for example) and gpa within? Or do they look more deeply at the course titles themselves? My D26 is looking to major in Criminal Justice and wants to take extra community college courses this year to get a head start on major prereqs that are pretty universal for her intended major (regardless of where she ends up - ie. intro classes in Sociology, Statistics for Social Science, intro classes in CJ).
Wondering how much extra boost, if any, this would give her when applying to SDSU - if major prereqs are mostly completed and/or if she has completed transferable college-level electives pertaining to her major?
First-Year Students | SDSU specifically mentions only computer science, engineering, performing arts, and nursing in the section for preparation for major, and does not specify how such things are added to their admission formula
Thank you for your reply, @ucbalumnus! Outside of those specific majors listed, it seems it’s a little vague as to how they measure your predicted success in your intended academic discipline. I’d be curious if anyone has spoken to SDSU Admissions about it for majors outside of those mentioned? Maybe they don’t even look at major preparation coursework for social science majors?..We are touring in person this October and I’ll see if I can get some more feedback from SDSU.
You can look at how competitive the major is in the link below. Either way these courses if transferable should provide a GPA boost anyway.
