There is an old long thread on this site that may be useful to read through: ACT Testing Wrongly Accusing Cheating

Make sure the facts on your side line up. Yes, I know someone who successfully argued, got the challenge reversed, the scores stood. And someone else who just agreed to take the test again (at ACT’s expense) and get the challenge removed.

But the circumstances and the facts matter. Does the test proctor agree with your kids version of events? This is important- especially if it’s someone (like your HS chem teacher) who has been proctoring standardized tests for 20 years. That will go a LONG way…

I have been denied on two appeals. The proctor at the test center didn’t report any irregularities, and the proctors amongst teachers coaches etc wrote letters regarding his character. Now I’m forced to do abration

@CALKYmom hello can you share how you were able to be successful with your case?

Unfortunately this user hasn’t been on the site since 2018

Thanks

What exactly are the allegations??? Using the internet, getting answers in the restroom, ??? And are they willing to just delete this test and allow your kid to take the test at their expense? Sometimes that’s easier than fighting…

So they are accusing him of cheating because his answer are similar to another kid in the room. The proctor never reported any testing irregularities. ACT is going off data I guess. They over for him to cancel the score, retest in a private setting, or appeal. We have appeal twice and been denied. My son started college this past summer made the President list he is now in the middle of his fall semester with A’s and B’s. I think he beyond going back to take this test again. The implication of not having his scores stand is keeping his TOPS wilhich is about $3,000 per semester

If it were me… 6K per year from TOPS vs. having to spend an hour on test prep just to refresh and a few hours taking the test- who else is paying your kid a thousand bucks an hour? Sounds worth retaking the test and then putting it behind you. If you’ve lost two appeals already, time to stop.

My son is in another city for school. His tutor for ACT is in the city where I live. I feel he’s upset with the whole situation because he have done everything necessary to earn the score he has.

He doesn’t need a tutor for a retake. He needs to spend an hour by himself reviewing an old test to refamiliarize himself with the format. He has the right to be upset- but is it worth kissing 6K goodbye by refusing to retake? That’s his decision.

Thanks we have a decision to make!

$6K per year right? So $24K.

Heck yeah. Tutor and retake.

Retake the ACT.

Or be willing to pay an extra $6000/yr in college expenses.

winning an appeal on the ACT accusation of cheating appears to be a lost cause. So you only have 2 options…retake the test or do nothing. If kid retakes it, he has better odds of being able to keep the $6k/yr scholarship. If he doesn’t retake it, then for sure he’ll lose the $6k/yr scholarship.

What happened to the other kid in the room?? This is outrageous. I feel for your predicament.
