ADMISSION DECISIONS FALL 2016 (CLASS OF 2020)

@WannaBeInMD

Just keep in mind the deadline for the DHS and PTA scholarship is Dec 5, before Tulane’s deadline to notify the students. If her essay was that demonstrative of her interest in Tulane, then I would operate under the assumption they will accept her and get the scholarship applications done. There is too much money at stake to do otherwise, IMO.

Just FYI, not actually their first time for the Common App. They took it for a while, dropped it for the Universal App, and now have switched back.

Tulane, like all schools, wants kids who want to go there, not just kids who want to get in. If your scores are very high Tulane often thinks that you are using it as a safety and will defer you to see if you get into your ED school, and therefore withdraw your Tulane application. This is an attempt to raise Tulane’s yield.

@fallenchemist I’m not sure if you’d know the answer to this, but is there any advantage to applying to Tulane on its website opposed to applying via CommonApp?

I agree with DebmomNY. I applied to Tulane as a safety but spent a lot of time on the Tulane supplement, making it very specific, so I think that’s why I was accepted quickly.

To anyone still waiting on their official letter I was accepted on 11/11 and just got my letter today!

My D hasn’t heard anything yet and is disappointed. Her stats are in line with Tulane’s- 32 ACT and 3.86uw gpa so it’s definitely not a safety. She hasn’t been able to visit but has participated in 2 online chats and has emailed with her regional counselor a few times. She wrote the Why Tulane essay and expressed her interest to the regional counselor. It’s too bad because Tulane has moved to the top of her list.

Got my merit aid in the letter. I got the Distinguished Scholar award ($27,000/year) and I have a 34 ACT/3.38 UW.

@Calimom23

Please tell her for me there is no reason to be disappointed. Well, OK she wants to know, which is perfectly understandable. I just mean I hope she doesn’t think it has some hidden meaning in terms of her chances. Tulane promised Dec. 15, they will make good on that.

See Post #11 especially.

My daughter is in a similar situation as several others. Good test score…2270 SAT with good grades and ECs. High SAT 2 subject tests. AP Scholar with distinction. She did apply for Paul Tulane and DHS scholarships. She applied August 1 and her application was complete in early Sep. I am convinced that she is going to be deferred. Two years ago her sister with much lower grades and lower test scores got a decision on Oct. 16 with 20/k yr merit offer. It is not looking good. We didn’t let daughter 1 attend Tulane due to cost. We had high hopes daughter 2 would get more merit money.

should we be at all concerned if one other person from our school has heard?

Not in the least, @collegeobsessed8

@fallenchemist thank you so much for all your help - your comments on this thread are so incredibly insightful and reassuring

last year my daughter was the last from her school to hear although she was first to apply. She received a very generous award and is very happy at Tulane.

Threads like this are so helpful, but they also create so much anxiety for those who are still waiting to hear. Hang in there everyone! A lot more offers of admission are yet to come!

i ask myself the same question when I check my bags. I’m always there early, probably first bag checked…why is it always the last one OFF the plane!!!

Answer is the same in this scenario: who knows! But you will get it within 4 weeks or so. Try not to read anything into the timing. At all…

Do you think that having a sibling at the school helps the chances of acceptance at Tulane? My childs grades are great 3.8 unweighted with all AP classes etc the act is just ok at a 27…

At my daughters school it appears like a good number of students who applied EA have already heard back but not one student that applied SCEA has. It also seems like the majority of responses on this thread have all been early action. I wonder if Tulane knows that SCEA applicants have already demonstrated their interest so they just put those ones aside for now and concentrate on the EA applicants because Tulane figures they have other choices and want to entice them sooner rather than later. Does anyone have any evidence to support this?

My son applied SCEA and got acceptance thru Gibson portal on Saturday 11/14

Maybe this does explain it. When you check in early, your bag gets loaded first… to the back of the plane. So, the first bags off are always the last ones added to the plane.

Maybe the early ones are at the bottom of the pile, and they keep taking from the top. So, not hearing really doesn’t mean anything.
