I’m a CA resident who applied 10/15 and hasn’t heard (3.4 UW, 2160 SAT)- an earlier poster suggested that I’ve been deferred. Wouldn’t doubt it :’(

@fallenchemist Hey on Gibson it says am accepted, but I don’t see any merit aid on Gibson Applicant page. What does this mean.

Reflection

[ul]
[]Strengths: ECs, community service, GPA, test scores, senior year courseload
[
]Weaknesses: Lack of APs before senior year, essay, one of my recs
[]Why you think you were accepted: Probably cause I fell right into the sweet spot below ivy-league stats and showed a ton of interest
[
]Where else you are applying or have already applied: Northeastern, Fordham, UVM, UMass Amherst, Johns Hopkins, BU
[li]General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: I’m really surprised to be getting the second highest available merit when compared with the other people on here who seem to have a tougher course load and better stats than me, still not sure how it happened but my best guess is the whole 3rd degree black belt thing really helped. It’s my #2 next to Northeastern but I will probably end up going here because it has a better neuro/neurobio program than NU. That will also depend on if I get the Dean’s Honors Scholarship so fingers crossed![/li][/ul]

Can you guys post the date you submitted your application too? That would help a lot of people with questions about the notification rate. It might help to know if most of the people who’ve been notified submitted them earlier or later.

I submitted my app on 15th, but my Gibson showed my file was complete on 21st. Got the decision 4days later. @kyquanzo

I submitted the evening of the 11th and was accepted the morning of the 14th. My Gibson showed as complete the first time I logged on. @kyquanzo

Westchester County, NY. Submitted on Nov. 15th, file complete on the 20th, accepted on the 24th. Will post stats later. Congrats to all accepted students and hang in there, guys. Your decision is coming!

I submitted on Nov 14th, but my file is still not complete on the portal. Should I be concerned?

@itsisha What are you missing? If it’s test scores they may take awhile. If it’s transcripts, then you should either contact your school or Tulane after the holidays.

Has anyone from VA, MD, DC, or WV heard yet??

My daughter received her Gibson acceptance at 9:20 pm last night and 30 minutes before that it still said that the application was ‘complete and awaiting review.’ So it just goes to show you that Tulane is working all hours of the day. My daughter completed her application back in late-September and sent it in but there were a few incomplete things from her school so it probably wasn’t really completed until Oct. 6ish. Then it took her teachers until the end of October to send in the letters of recommendation. She applied SCEA, did the Why Tulane essay, the ‘Tulane Comes to You’ event at the Chicago Marriott, visited her rep when she came to her school and toured Tulane about 10 days ago. She also kept in touch with her counselor throughout the process but not too much…BTW, her counselor is amazing.

Here is the rest of the info:

    [
]Teacher Recommendations: don’t know but must have been good enough
[]Counselor Rec: don’t know but must have been good enough (she was not too close with her HS counselor)

Other:

  • []State (if domestic applicant): IL
    []Country (if international applicant): USA
    [
]School Type: Public, top-tier North Shore School
    []Ethnicity: White
    [
    ]Gender: Female
[]Income Bracket: top, but I certainly don’t feel rich
    [
]Hooks (URM, First Generation College, etc.): none

Reflection:

  • []Strengths: Essay’s, maybe ACT, took challenging classes at a tough HS
    [
    ]Weaknesses: probably GPA
[]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: showed interest, ACT, essays
    [
]Where else you are applying or have already applied: Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Univ. of Texas, ASU, U of A and Vanderbilt

General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: When you look at this Tulane forum it seems like the majority of the students are top tier, I mean 4.0’s and 34+ ACT’s and it gets a little discouraging. My daughter is really bright student and should do well at Tulane but she is also just a teenager living a normal life. So I guess what I’m trying to say is that you don’t need to be ‘student god’ to get into Tulane but you do need to be sharp. My advice is to take a hand full of AP and honors classes that really interest you but not too many. This way you can focus on getting the highest grades possible without over-stressing yourself with too many honors and AP classes. Try to keep your GPA above a 3.5 if possible. Get to know your counselor. Pick one or two extracurricular activities that you like and focus on those. Universities like diverse student bodies not necessarily diverse students. And lastly, try to keep your ACT above a 30 if you can. If you can do that, you will have a lot of college choices available to you and a reasonable chance of getting into Tulane without stressing yourself to death. Just my 2 cents.

@Chopinspiano They’ve received my test scores , it just says “high school transcript 1” and “Tulane secondary report” are missing. I applied through the Common App, which has been received, so shouldn’t these two have been automatically received with it? Could it be that this “transcript 1” and “secondary report” are just for those applying through the Tulane application? Thank you!

@itsisha I applied through the CommonApp as well. It seems to me that they’re waiting on guidance counselor reports. Check with Tulane to see if they have receieved them, if they have not then contact your guidance counselor. By chance though, does your school use Parchment for transcripts?

@Chopinspiano I had sent them an email and they just replied! They said my application file is complete. So I guess the transcript and secondary report were only for the Tulane applications.

Daughter’s application complete since Oct 1st. Her brother with similar stats heard last year before end of October and is enjoying his freshman year at Tulane! Less worried because only 1 of the 23 kids from her school who applied has heard anything yet…but refreshing the Gibson page is getting old…
