@EllieBrand I think despite the standardized test score, you have a very good chance Youāve definitely demonstrated interest and you have a great academic record, and I think that is enough to overcome the low test score.

Good luck!
Thank you!! this makes me feel a little better @anothermuggle

This message makes me really really really really really sad/nervous.
I was so nervous because I submitted by app in mid-October but just got accepted tonight!

Mad good extracurriculars and probably 7/10 on Why Tulane.
So happy! Roll Wave!
@micky1120
Bro, all I did was a ton of extracurricular activities and they received my application on November 15th, so you and I are pretty much the same. I havenāt even visited the school yet! You can look at my stats and stuff at Post #496. You should definitely get in!
Is there a certain time during the day when Tulane posts decisions on Gibson?
@Hero45 It seems to be very irregular times.
I applied October 15th and still havenāt heard back. 2100 sat and 3.9 unweighted gpa. In top 10%. Iām starting to freak out!
@actssmart I feel that. I keep refreshing. The blue box makes me sad haha I wonder what color it turns when youāre accepted or what it looks like :o

@robert6080 I participated in the NYU summer program too! What program were you in?
Question for those admitted and soon after received calls from Tulane admissions ā what were they calling about?
@seabreeze1998 they called to say congrats and ask if I had any questions

 []Job/Work Experience: None
[]Volunteer/Community Service: 200+ hours at a local hospital, 100 hours at a local museum, 32 hours with the red cross in Spain, 25 hours at my school, 36 hours tutoring
[]Summer Activities: Volunteered at a local hospital for two years in a row. Worked in the administrative office, and also had the opportunity to observe some surgeries, and the summer before my senior year I spent a month in Spain doing a language program and a home stay.
[]Essays: 8.5-9 I think my common app was pretty good, it was about how I slipped up in Spanish during 10th grade, but put in a lot of work and learned all of the indicative and most of the subjunctive tense, and skipped a level of Spanish because of the work I put in. I didnāt write the optional essay, because when I first applied to Tulane I only did so because it was free, but I instantly regretted it.
[]Teacher Recommendations: 8 for both? I think both were really good. I chose my math and Spanish teacher, both of whom Iāve had for about two years. Iām doing my extended essay, research paper on a subject and topic of your choosing, with my Spanish teacher so we see each other a lot, and my math teacher was my advisor during my junior year so weāre pretty close as well.
[]Counselor Rec: 8? We talk a lot, and I sit in his office whenever I have a study hall

Other:
- []State (if domestic applicant): TN

 []School Type: Private
 []Ethnicity: African-American/Nigerian
 []Gender: Male
 []Income Bracket: >150000
[]Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM, foreign?? idk I didnāt report it
Reflection:
-
[]Strengths: Good test scores, solid recommendations, good common app
[]Weaknesses: Didnāt write the optional essay, GPA is kind of gross, not a lot of extracurriculars or major awards
[]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I honestly have no idea. Like 5 to 7 other people applied to Tulane from my school and we all have similar stats, so maybe itās because Iām a URM? Idk. I didnāt really take Tulane that seriously until now, and if I donāt get into my ED school then thereās a strong possibility I might go here
[]Where else you are applying or have already applied: Accepted: Butler University, Hampden-Sydney College Waiting: Columbia University (ED), Howard University (EA), University of Michigan (EA), Northeastern University (RD)
[]General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: I honestly donāt feel like I deserve this at all, but who am I to look gift horse in the mouth? Iām really excited about the future, and who knows maybe Iāll be a freshman at Tulane next year :)). Congratulations to all who got accepted as well!!
I am not sure why you are so self-deprecating about your record. A 32 ACT and a 3.7 UW GPA, with a lot of high level coursework? That is a tremendous record. You have been looking at CC too long if you think that is in any way less than outstanding. I am not surprised you got accepted, even without the Why Tulane essay. Your stats are ideal for Tulane. Iāll be surprised if you donāt get a pretty nice merit scholarship as well. Send me a PM when you do (or post it here if you want) and I can add it to your summary post.
@fallenchemist D has been accepted!!! She has been in and out of Gibson in the last hour trying to upload her Paul Tulane scholarship and noticed that her account just switched to accepted. She is extremely excited!! This was a long wait. She stopped looking at this thread 2 weeks ago because she was getting discouraged. Thanks again for all your support and encouragement
Oh, I will post her stats after we receive the official letter with hopefully some scholarship.
Never a doubt!!
Send my congrats (and my wink) on to your D. I bet now she is glad she finished up the PTA!
