ADMISSION DECISIONS FALL 2016 (CLASS OF 2020)

Thanks. I will. After reading your post yesterday, I asked her again to finish the application. She was sure that she will get deferred, but she decided to finish the essays and send the application anyway. I am glad she is done and she can relax now. Good luck to others still waiting. I am surprised that the acceptance showed up so late in the evening!!

i have grown so obsessed with checking my application status its becoming hard to do anything. i wish they would just defer me if they already decided that rather than make me and everyone else wait. i just want to cry at this point.

@lonetreegrad Congrats, that’s awesome to hear! I am submitting my Paul Tulane Essays tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
:slight_smile:

@SnapApp Thank you. I am so happy for D. Best of luck to you.
@micky1120 D felt the same as you yesterday. It is hard to see your child being so upset and frustrated. I think she checked Gibson probably 6 or 7 times just today and it just changed to acceptance in the last hour, so don’t lose hope yet.

@lonetreegrad

I suspect they are working late until December 15.

I was thinking back to the conversation about why Tulane doesn’t communicate more and earlier in the process about the full tuition awards, and I had a thought that actually makes sense, I think. See if this tracks.

We all know that Tulane looks for ways to discern if the top 1% type students are serious about Tulane or just using it as a safety. Naturally one way to try and gauge that is to try and measure the amount of interest shown, and certainly one way (the best way I would say) is to see how much effort they make to look into the school. Certainly there are contacts with the school, such as a visit or attending a local session, and/or contacting your admissions person. Another is the Why Tulane essay they put in a few years ago. Not only if the person bothers filling it out (hence the tricky “optional” designation) but if the content shows that they actually looked into the school rather than just regurgitating brochure info or cliches.

Along those same lines, as I have mentioned, submitting the DHS and/or PTA is another demonstration of interest, and making sure people have looked through the web site to find these kinds of scholarships rather than spoon feeding it to them through emails means they had to have been interested enough in the school to do some digging. It would also explain why they moved the deadline for submission up to Dec 5 from December 15, so they could take that into account for early admission applicants.

I don’t think that is in the least unlikely. Tulane has demonstrated, IMO, very clever and thorough thinking in the way they execute admissions strategy, including not only this (if I am right), but also the whole way they do the admission cycle. They let people know they are admitted early in the process, along with generous merit scholarships. You might be amazed at how often that has taken Tulane from an applicants “it was a whim because it was free and easy” portion of their list to “wow, this is a serious school for me now and I really need to visit”. Now Tulane’s beautiful campus, very friendly and happy students, and New Orleans itself come into play, all huge positives for the school. I have always thought it was kind of genius. This DHS/PTA strategy would just be an extension of that kind of thinking.

For those who are extremely anxious, I think you’re worrying too much. I applied to Tulane first week of November and got accepted two weeks later. Kids from my school with MUCH higher GPA’s and test scores applied in September/October and have been getting accepted within the last few days. Hang in there, this process is completely random.

    ]General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Don’t stress if you haven’t heard back yet, I applied early November and found out about 15 minutes ago. Don’t worry if you think your stats are good enough. I for sure thought I wasn’t getting in but the admissions counselors thought differently. :slight_smile:

@fallenchemist still haven’t heard back, but I just submitted my dhs project and emailed my admissions counselor. I also did the why Tulane essay. Hopefully they now realize my level of interest. I just want to hear back lol

I hear ya! But kudos for completing the project!

Do they send you an email when the decision is ready?

@fallenchemist I think your post makes a lot of sense. I agree with everything you said. It took D a while to find out about DHS/PTA scholarships in CC. She tried to find them using financial aid tab in her account, but still had to google the names to get to the right location. She assumed that like other colleges, those options show up in her account, but the site was completely empty until you actually get accepted. So, you are right that they want to know who is interested enough to research the school. Hopefully, we can go visit the school soon. Have to go now, getting late here. Thanks again. :slight_smile:

@NotMyName907

No, you just have to keep checking Gibson.

What what what! Looked back just now- wasn’t there earlier, but, hurrah!

[li]General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Good Luck![/li][/ul]

@fallenchemist Is it advisable to reach out to your admissions counselor and let them know you submitted the DHS/PTA Award applications? I submitted both yesterday; I also applied to Tulane in late October and still have not heard anything.

@fallenchemist can I ask you when they will realease the financial aid decision?

@calan101

I think this is a 50-50, but do keep in mind they are working long hours right now, and making a lot of decisions they know are important to all of you. So if you decide to send one, keep it short and upbeat, not a sense of “why haven’t I heard yet?”. But in your case I think you don’t have any concerns, your stats look like a great match for Tulane. Congrats on Purdue.

@mpthuytien

Assuming it isn’t different for internationals, and I don’t think it is, packages go out in mid-late March.
