ADMISSION DECISIONS FALL 2016 (CLASS OF 2020)

@fallenchemist okay cool, that’s nice to hear…that’s pretty much the situation I was in. I touched on that in the essay, stating that my excitement about Tulane had really developed from learning more about the school and talking to my history professor (an alumni). I was hoping they would appreciate the merging of my honesty (that Tulane had just recently became one of my top choices) and my excitement (that attending is a very exciting prospect for me and that I’m a serious applicant).

@makingains @cab598 awesome, thanks!

[]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Submitting my PTA app last night probably helped, emailed my counselor a few times, had a strong application. There’s really no way to know why you were accepted
[
]Where else you are applying or have already applied: Accepted to Baylor and Belmont, waiting to hear back from several others
[li]General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: I applied at the end of October and got my decision somewhere between 10am and 2pm today! [/li][/ul]

I’m really starting to stress out! I applied SCEA on November 14th, but two days later when I received my Gibson portal, it showed I had a missing transcript. The issue was resolved on the 19th of November, and I haven’t heard yet. Do you think the delay in my transcript would impact the timing of my decision @fallenchemist ? Tulane is my top choice, and I want to hear back as soon as possible. It would suck to be deferred or delayed because of my transcript not being in due to a glitch :frowning:

For reference if you want to comment on my chances:

UW GPA: 3.9 (extremely competitive public high school, consistently ranked in the top 100 in the country)
SAT: 1960
ECs: performing arts company, madrigals, amnesty international, job at local small business , youth sports coach, varsity soccer 3 years, captain senior year
Awards: NHS, several school level awards
APs: Euro (5), APUSH (5)

Hi I just wanted to share my frustration. I applied on October 25th and still have not heard. I have a 32 ACT and 4.4/4.8 GPA. Tulane is not my first choice but I could definitely see myself going there. I am really upset that I have not heard yet after waiting for months. Every time I check the portal I get the same blue box. This blue box makes me feel upset and shut down. I shouldn’t let a blue box control me, but I do. Do you think I’m getting sefereed if I haven’t heard yet? When I brought this concern up to my counselor she said that I have such good chances of getting in here. I just don’t understand why I haven’t heard. If they are going to defer me I wish they would right now.

@anxiousgirl24 I feel you. I think they send out all the deferrals on the last day, which is the 15th.

@SnapApp so am I getting deferred if I haven’t heard yet? Wouldn’t they just accept me already if they want to. I’m sick of waiting it’s really not fair to do this to us.

@SnapApp @AnxiousGirl24 honestly, I wish deferrals were rolling too. It would be better to know then to see that stupid blue box every single time you know? Ugh.

@anxiousgirl24 Last year, people got acceptances all the way until the deadline. Crossing my fingers it will happen for us!

@ellen2020 @SnapApp I literally check all the time and make myself so upset when I don’t see a decision

I keep checking too, and its so discouraging. I legit just wanna know, either way.

@anxiousgirl24

I had to say this a million times last year, not so much this year. Tulane is not a rolling admissions process. I know it is a very stressful time, and I also know that this will come off a little harsh, but no one has a right to get upset with Tulane about this, and calling it unfair is out of line. Why? Because they clearly only promised to have all EA and SCEA decisions out by December 15. Nothing else. They never said they would get anyone a decision earlier, and to the extent they do it is a nice extra. There is absolutely nothing to read into the fact that they get to some applications, even within your same school, sooner than others. But like schools that release ALL their decisions near December 15, if you just go in expecting the same from Tulane you won’t be disappointed. If you get it sooner? BONUS!

In fact, you seem like a great candidate for Tulane. Your stats are spot on, on the high side. Of course I cannot see the essays, recs and other factors in your file. Maybe they are just trying to decide whether to give you $30K or $32K, who knows? I won’t tell you to calm down, that’s up to you. But it really does no good to get so worked up about it, especially when Tulane hasn’t broken a single commitment they made.

@ellen2020

Your stats seem right at the Tulane midpoint, or very close. Your GPA looks on the higher than average side, your SAT just a little lower, but barely. That makes you a great candidate, I would think. Like I said to anxiousgirl24, I can’t see your entire file. Even if I could, I am not admissions, but you certainly seem to be in good shape. @SnapApp is exactly right. In with all the deferrals at the end were a lot of acceptances too.

I don’t think the timing of your transcript getting to them affected anything other than a little bit why you are still waiting. But it won’t hurt you overall in the least.

Tulane is probably in the top 10 or so of number of applications received, at least among private schools. It really takes a lot of work and time to get through them all. You all have to cut them a little slack.

@historyprof

It sounds like you handled it exactly as I would have advised someone to do so. It’s cool that you have a history teacher that is an alum, and I bet Tulane thinks so too.

I would also point out to everyone that several people on here that were “moaning and groaning” and sure they were getting deferred have recently gotten accepted. Am I right, @coffeeandchrist? :wink:

@fallenchemist I know I don’t have any right to be mad but it’s just really upsetting. Im so stressed out over this

@anxiousgirl24

That I understand. Truly. But trust me after years of observing all of this. It will turn out great. Absolutely. You will see. Just take a few deep breaths, and enjoy your family and friends. That’s what really counts. This will all unfold mostly on its own at this point.

@anxiousgirl24 This is one of those situations where a giant mug of hot cocoa might also be helpful.

Sometimes coincidence is amazing. Literally two minutes ago Jeff tweeted the latest update to his blog. http://tuadmissionjeff.blogspot.com/2015/12/puppies.html

20% increase in applications this year, which is most likely due to the USNWR ranking jump. I bet the percent that are international increased by a disproportionate amount, and those take even more time I would think. Anyway, VERY cute puppies, go look.

Lol that’s too funny, @fallenchemist … obviously this means that to some extent, more people need to get deferred. on the other hand, i really think they will keep doing what they have for the past years, and increase acceptances. hopefully :slight_smile:

PS. those puppies are so cute
