ADMISSION DECISIONS FALL 2016 (CLASS OF 2020)

Oh, for sure @Chelsea1. Legacies wouldn’t be segregated into a separate decision group. I am sure a lot of people that have heard have parents or grandparents that attended.

@fallenchemist I was accepted with a Presidential Scholarship and a spot in the Honors Program. I am extremely interested in the Tulane Accelerated Physician Training Program. Do you know how many people get in?

@brownedapp2020

I don’t know a lot about the history of how many, but I know it is based on quality rather than any specific number they are looking for. I have heard as few as one or two in a given year, and I think the most I have heard is 6, maybe 8 but I think it was 6.

As you have probably discovered, unlike some (most?) schools Tulane does not do admissions into this program parallel to general admission to the school, but instead the process starts after you begin classes in the fall. As you also probably know, there is another program called Creative Premedical Scholars where a small number of non-science majors that are interested in med school are guaranteed admission to Tulane Med. But that admission process starts 2nd semester sophomore year. Just thought I would throw that in for the general interest of our reading public.

What are the stats needed for the honors program?

Did anyone else’s message change to "Your decision is pending review We will try to get you a decision in just a few weeks, but you will receive an update on your admission status by December 15th at the latest. "?

Mine says something similar.

When did you apply and on what application?

Nov. 14th Early Action with the Tulane App.

So did I

Mine changed too

mine still says complete and awaiting review i applied with tulane app oct 23

If it says “awaiting review”, does it mean that the admissions officers have not read it yet?

This message change happens every year, and there doesn’t seem to be any significance. Maybe it means something internally to them, but to applicants it doesn’t seem to mean anything as far as a decision coming today, tomorrow, or next week at the deadline. In fact, sometimes the message changes back. So pretty much still the same.

So the change in message does not mean we will be deferred?

@GossamerWings

Everyone that gets the Presidential and Premiere scholarships gets invited. It ends up being about 10-12% of the incoming class. So not sure what the stats are exactly, but you can look at the list people have been keeping on this thread that shows stats and award given and get the idea. One can get into the program after starting at Tulane, I am sue the requirements are on the web site.

However, the Honors Program is changing as we speak and the more important program, to me, is the Tulane Scholars. This has more tangible effects on the students’ time at Tulane in that they get specific benefits such as mentoring, research opportunities above and beyond what Tulane already provides, and more guidance in pathways towards how to succeed in the above. Again, details are on the web site.

@CRA464

Not in my experience. People getting that message last year often got accepted the next day or the next week. A lot got deferred as well, but of course that is because all deferrals are still pending and so are a disproportionate number of remaining notifications. But there is no correlation.

My daughter is one of those who received an invitation to apply for free. She applied early action and was accepted. Without that free application, Tulane would probably not have been on her list because she just did not know enough about the school to apply. Now after being accepted, she is hearing lots of nice things about Tulane and it has moved close to the top of her list. If her ED says no she will probably attend, assuming she likes it when she visits. Getting an acceptance early from a great school like Tulane gives such a good feeling about a school - very smart!
Her stats are: 93% weighted GPA
ACT 31 (top 99% scores in English & Reading. Math 30 and Science 26)
About 20 honor/AP classes
Very active in extracurricular
Received a few honors
excellent writer
Recommendations from counselor who knows her really well - probably 10/10
Recommendations from teacher who has known her since 9th grade - 10/10 no doubt
Recommendation from a teacher who likes her but didn’t know her all that well. - 9/10 probably
did optional essay

I have already posted this before, but to keep the stats and scholarships together, here it is. She applied in mid October. Gibson showed her acceptance on Dec 3rd, the letter is dated Dec 4th, and she received it today. Presidential Scholar $32,000 and an invitation to Tulane Honors college. SATI 2290; SATII Bio E 800; US history 750. UWGPA 4.0. Good EC and leadership. She has already submitted PTA application, but didn’t have time to apply for DHS. She found out about them a week ago and was too busy to do it. Her acceptance took a long time to show up and she decided to work on the PTA application after @fallenchemist recommended her to work on it.

She is very happy and Tulane has definitely moved up to the top of the list. :slight_smile:

just got in with 2210 SAT, 4.44 GPA! I also was awarded the presidential scholarship ($32k a year). I applied EA with the Tulane application.
