ADMISSION DECISIONS FALL 2016 (CLASS OF 2020)

@collegebobollege

Even if @tigerbomb05 applied RD, being from Louisiana he qualified automatically based on meeting certain criteria such as scores, GPA and course rigor, which are easy to verify quickly. So they are passed through pretty automatically, the essays become meaningless for them.

It’s a very long story, but Tulane actually was a public until after the Civil War. To this day, Tulane remains the only public university to go private. That is why you see some unusual programs, such as the legislative scholarships, tax breaks beyond those a lot of schools get, and probably this agreement to take LA students if they meet certain academic minimums. However, financially those LA students are treated like any other, so just meeting the minimums doesn’t guarantee affordability.

Has anyone who applied EA on November 15th (the last day) heard back yet?

@collegedaddy
They got my application on the 15th.

Does anyone know how to get added to the official accepted students FB page? I have a fake name and I’ve done the mod messaging w/ Gibson ID and I haven’t heard back in 2 weeks.

@collegebobollege
@collegedaddy
What I meant above was that yes I sent in the application itself on the 15th but the secondary school report and my act scores were sent in on the 17th and 28th respectively so I assume it still counted as EA even though I didn’t have all of my required documents by the 15th

but yeah I think because it has to do with instate and the focus Louisiana stuff and whatnot that they processed my stuff pretty quickly but I’m sure you’ll hear back soon! Good luck

@mollikinz

Try sending an email directly to Jeff Schiffman and see what might be the hangup. If he isn’t directly responsible for being the gatekeeper of that page, he can tell you who is.

Finally got my envelope in the mail!

[
]Where else you are applying or have already applied: Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara, American, George Washington, Trinity, UNC, Fordham, University of Portland, University of Washington, Vanderbilt
[li]General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: I’ve really been counting on the merit aid. Of course, the Founders Scholarship is extremely generous and I’m very grateful, but I had been hoping that the quality of my essay and recs would help me get the 30k, or at least the 27k. Not sure if I’ll be able to afford Tulane. I think I should have demonstrated more interest – I didn’t find out about Tulane until about 2 months ago and missed some opportunities to reach out to them. I emailed my counselor after I submitted my application to tell him about some ECs since I didn’t see the EC essay on the common app. I also took the time then to tell him I was really interested in Tulane and it was one of my top choices. Anyway, good luck to everyone else! [/li] [/ul]

If you hear back late, like within the last week, are you less likely to get scholarship? @fallenchemist

@xxdanixx from what I’ve heard there is no correlation between the two. They still give scholarships to people who apply RD, so they still have plenty of Merit money.

@xxdanixx

Not at all. Tulane is very consistent with these partial merit scholarships, basing them almost entirely on stats. Timing plays no role this early in the admissions season. Remember, there are still all the RD candidates, and they get scholarships too!

What does the Gibson portal say for those who have received decisions? Was your status changed before you got the letter? Or does it still say awaiting review even though you’ve gotten your letter? Also does the online portal say anything about scholarships for those who got them?

Thanks!

@fallenchemist Do you know whether the PTA and DHS are typically awarded only to those with the highest possible stats, such as Presidential and Premier Scholarship recipients? My D was awarded a Founders Scholarship, which is helpful for sure, but we are still holding out hope for the PTA or the DHS, both of which she applied for. Thoughts?

@dirtysprite2

The portal doesn’t say anything about scholarships at this stage. Sometime later they will add the financial status tabs which will reflect all merit awards.

Others can confirm, but once you have your decision it says “Accepted”, at least all of them so far. It no longer says awaiting review. The letter is automatically generated when they change it to acceptance, I would think (and they add any merit award and honors invite, if applicable, so it shows up in the letter. But again, at this stage there is no way to see those things online, just the acceptance).

@2kids4me

Yes, nearly all the awards go to those already awarded Presidentials and Premiers, with the rare Distinguished Scholar recipient thrown in. I hate dashing hopes, but I have never heard of a Founders recipient winning, and unless they raised their test score (if that was their weak stat) from, let’s just say 30 to 34 for the ACT or 2080 to 2300 for the SAT, it seems unlikely. That would be the only scenario I could imagine, since raising a “weaker” (it is all relative, of course) GPA at this stage is pretty tough to do.

But of course I don’t see lists and histories of the winners. I only know those that I hear about, mostly through CC. That is quite a few over the last 7 years, but hardly all by any means.

Well I’m still waiting. I’ve become a bit less obsessive, trying to only check Gibson once a day and this site as well. I still haven’t read of really any Manhattan posts. I know of a couple kids who have heard, some with better stats and others with not as good. Please anyone who lives in NYC post if you have heard.

@fallenchemist Thanks for your insight. The SAT is the weak stat indeed … though GPA is strong at 4.7 W, 4.0 UW. Hoping an exception is made for a stellar submission, haha, but trying to be realistic.

@Dkaye4
congratulations!! is your 3.6 GPA weighted or unweighted? I have similar statistics and am also out of state but I haven’t heard back yet

Status just updated this morning on Gibson. Applied 11/15.
