ADMISSION DECISIONS FALL 2016 (CLASS OF 2020)

@bayarea7 Congratulations. Was your acceptance just posted today?

@autumnicedcoffee. My 3.6 is a weighted GPA so very thrilled to be admitted. My superstore for the ACT was 31 so that may have helped.

@slg333 Yes! Today around noon.

Hi! @fallenchemist I was hoping you could give me some insight about whether or not i will be accepted! I have a 1950 SAT a 3.7 W gpa and I have 3 jobs, tons of volunteering and activities and leadership at my school. I am MUN president, head of buildOn (raises money for schools in underdeveloped nations) debate club spanish club, i was a counselor at a sleep away camp and I’m a varsity tennis player. I applied EA end of october and have heard nothing. lots of kids have applied from my school and about half have heard back, mostly boys, some with lower stats than mine. I have spoken directly with the admissions rep and showed tons of interest. My why tulane was heartfelt quirky and funny. Am I going to be deferred?

Does the application status work based on your school? I applied to Tulane in the middle of October, and most people who applied from my school have already received their acceptances. Does this mean I’m less likely to get in/more likely to be differed? Or is there no correlation.

Im legit so nervous rn. really happy for all who got in, hopefully i hear good news very soon…

@jax1698

Not based on school, and there is no correlation. Just have to be patient.

@pineapplegrl

I still think you look like a likely admit. Nothing you can do but wait.

I know you are getting a lot of these, @fallenchemist, but I was wondering if you could chance me. I have a 33 ACT, 3.92 UW GPA, and a 4.9 W GPA. I have been active in the same activity (twirling) since age five. I have taken mostly AP classes since freshman year. I have a total of 15 dual enrollment credits as well. I have completed a year-long environmental fellowship, and have over 300 community service hours. I work as a coach for elementary schoolers for twirling. I am in National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Chemistry Honor Society, Key Club, and I have been the president of the environmental club for the past two years. With the Dec. 15th final notification date just around the corner, I feel as if I am going to get deferred. Please let me know what you think!

Also @fallenchemist, I submitted the early action application on November 1st, and my file was marked as complete the day after. I completed the “why tulane” essay as well.

    ]Applied on Nov 15! Accepted tonight. Soooo happy!!!

@fallenchemist
Should I be concerned about being deferred? My SAT score is very low at 1750; M640 R620 W490, I took 2 AP last year (Biology and PreCalc), 3 AP (Psychology, Environmental, Statistics) and 1 Dual Enrollment this year. I am in the top 10% of my class(17 of 183) and I have a unweighted GPA of 3.93. I am in numerous extracurricular activities: Competitive and Football Cheerleading (I am a guy), 10VP 11Pres 12Pres of Environmental Club, 10Historian 11VP 12Pres of FFA, 12 VP National Honor Society, 12 Publicist of LEO club, involved in Book Club, Key Club, Foreign Language Alliance Group, and cofounder of Teaching Tolerance Club. I haven’t reached out because I am across the country in the State of Delaware.

@JRadical98

Great GPA though!! And 6 high level classes by the time you finish. Hard to say if that will pull you over at this stage for admission or if they decide to wait and see how you stack up against the total admission pool later. Plus deferral would give them a chance to see your first semester grades just to be sure they stay up there.

So to be perfectly honest to your question as you asked it, yes you probably should have some “concern” in the sense it seems to be a real possibility. But I really like your chances in the long run if they should defer you and if you do as well first semester as you traditionally have.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried the ACT? High GPA students often tend to do better on it.

@fallenchemist
Thank you for your honesty! I need it, everyone sugarcoats it. I have not taken the ACT, but if I am deferred I will take it at least once.

@JRadical98

Yes, I think that would absolutely be the way to go.

@fallenchemist, Please see posts 788 and 789

@saveourseas

Man, I think I started to answer you yesterday and got distracted. Anyway, great high school record, congratulations. I am sure you are also a strong candidate at several of the most competitive admissions schools in the country. You might be one of those cases where Tulane is trying to figure if they are a safety for you, in which case deferment is most likely, or not, in which case you will surely get accepted. Did you apply for either of the full tuition awards? You appear to have the record to be competitive for them.

Luckily I was accepted to Tulane but am in the large group who did not receive any merit scholarship money. Tulane touts that the average student receives $39k in Financial Aid. Is the financial aid loans or does it also include a reduction in tuition based on your FAFSA score? I don’t really care if it’s merit or FAFSA based but need to seem some reduction in cost in order to attend.

@fallenchemist I have a 32 ACT and 5.06 weighted gpa(south carolina has a different weighting system) and have emailed my counselor a couple of times. I submitted my PT application at the last minute hoping it would show that I was very interested in the school, but I forgot to send in one of my essays. Do you think that will hurt my chances? I applied EA and submitted the why tulane essay which showed that I did extensive research on the school.
