@deacons12 can i ask what your GPA/ test scores were? im just curious to know the stats of someone who didnt recieve money bc i am a borderline applicant
3.3 unweighted (I know it’s low - had a bad semester and attend a tough college prep school) but ACT 31 and SAT 2020 (760 Math, 640 - Reading and 620 - Writing)
@zd4589 I think you have a good chance for admission if your essays were good. I’m from SC so a 5.0+ weighted gpa is about 3.85+ if not a 4.0. Did you submit the 2nd essay for the PT? I doubt you will stand a chance for the scholarship if you didn’t submit it after you realized your error. This however will not hurt your chances of admission. I’m not @fallenchemist but I can assure you that.
I think with those ACT & SAT scores you have a good chance, especially if your high school is competitive. They are likely to forgive one bad semester. My daughter got in with ACT score of 31 and an unweighted GPA of 89% from a very competitive high school. She received a merit scholarship. She submitted the supplemental essay.
I was just deferred… :((
@Chopinspiano I didn’t realize until the morning after that my application wasn’t complete so i didn’t send it. Hoping I will get a partial merit scholarship if accepted. Glad to hear that my PT won’t affect my admissions decision, thanks!
Just got deferred, in a state of shock. I have no clue why (objective stuff was all above range, have research and all that) but I guess this stuff is too subjective to know. Should/could I call the admissions office at some point to ask if there were any specific reasons for my application getting deferred?
@sadlyoptimistic I’m sorry! But hey it’s not the end! I’ve heard of plenty of students getting accepted in the RD round.
I am technically homeschooled; however, I have only really been home schooled for my junior/senior year (went to a performing arts school the previous years because I previously wanted to pursue art professionally) However, in these past two years that I have been “homeschooled,” I have been taking full time post secondary classes on campus at my state University, so I asked my counselor at Tulane if the SAT subject test requirements for admission could be waived due to my “not-really-that homeschooled” experience. I was allowed to waive the requirement, but here I am now…still haven’t heard back. I’m almost wondering if this whole experience may have a “not that interested” impression and potentially hurt my application…
on a side note, I submitted my app on the day of the deadline for EA (I have a 3.8 UW GPA and a 33 on the ACT.)
I think it would be okay to write the admissions office at some point to let them know Tulane is at the top of the list and ask them if there is anything you can do to improve your chances of acceptance. This will show your interest and that you are likely to say yes if they accept you.
@sadlyoptimistic , I’m so sorry, but, don’t give up hope!
They’re already sending out deferrals I’m so scared
@micky1120 Chill out there’s still time to get admitted
@fallenchemist I actually just got deferred… I am quite surprised.
I just got deferred. I was hoping to be admitted early but I guess I still have a chance with regular decision.
Yea I just got deferred and I was honestly not expecting that.
Hi, I just received a deferral from Tulane University. I just wanted some advice on how to handle this, and why I may have been deferred? Here are my credentials:
ACT: 30
GPA: 3.63 (Weighted: 4.19)
Diploma Program: IB
I wrote my essay about education reform and how I feel we need to reprioritize what we teach in public schools, and for “Why Tulane?” I gave a short discussion on the great academic environment of Tulane and the business perks of an education in New Orleans.
I also have a good history in extra curriculars. I have done Model UN for 3 years, been on some type of athletic team for 3 years as well, participated in a good amount of volunteering opportunities, been a member of my youth group for 4 years, list goes on.
I’m just a bit surprised considering both my ACT and GPA are within the middle 50% of previous admitted class. I also thought the fact that I’m taking one of the most rigorous curriculums in the country may have helped. I am new to this, so I was wondering what I could possibly do to increase my chances of admittance? I’m already retaking the ACT this month. I appreciate any help. Thank you!
does anyone know if they sent out all the deferrals at once or just some of them? im just confused on how that works. especially since my deferral isnt up yet but other people’s are
I don’t think they are all at once. I am sure they are still finishing up the last of the applications. I imagine it will go right up to the last day, but we will see.
Jeff just posted his annual message to those that got deferred. There is really nothing I can add to it from my point of view. http://tuadmissionjeff.blogspot.com/2011/12/ive-been-deferred-now-what.html
Sure some of the decisions seem surprising just based on what you post on here, but there is so much more to it that cannot be seen. I strongly suggest you follow Jeff’s advice if Tulane is still on your wish list.
