“low gpa” haha… thats basically an A- GPA, don’t kill yourself over something like that (which is actually quite good). Congratulations, though @roaringtiger
I see that kind of thing all the time on CC, and I don’t know if smhh is an official acronym, but I am figuratively shaking my head hard(er) than for a lot of other things.
@fallenchemist what is smhh???
I think smh is standard for “shaking my head”, correct? I’m old so I need some slack on these things. So what I was asking, knowing that it isn’t standard, is can I say smhh where the second h stands for “harder”? My only point being that I am agreeing with what you said. There are millions of students who would love to have that GPA, a lot more below it than above it. Except on CC of course.
Amen, @fallenchemist I thank you for empathizing with me haha

- []No idea why deferred. Very frustrating. Only thing I can think is that they prefer those who use their app used the common app. Extra curriculars are many and almost 200 hrs of service but nothing really truly unique? Teachers are pretty surprised. Oh well. lol
We didn’t visit the school yet either
Deferred, 3.95 UW GPA, 34 ACT, what I thought was a great essay. No idea what happened.
@fallenchemist Hi, may I ask you another question? I scored 1300/2030 on the SAT, and I surely think it’s not an excellent score at all, yet I got a pretty hard time at the time I studied for the test. During my last semester of grade 11th and the first semester of my grade 12, my grandmother was really sick and she spent most of her time at the hospital. I’m currently living with my grandmother and uncle, so at that time, because of my uncle going to work, I spent much time at the hospital taking care of my grandmother. I was also permitted by the school to delay my study for one entire week. During the last couple of months, my grandmother’s heath has made some positive progress and I have has more time working on my school workload. My first semester’s GPA of my senior year (I just have received on Tuesday) is 3.84/4, which has significantly increased (my unweighted GPA of grade 11th is 3.76). I’m intending to write an appealing letter because I want to increase the amount of financial aid, so do you think it is ok to tell them this? And if the fin aid decision will come out in late March, should I wait after I’ve got the packet result or I can submit my appealing letter now?
Yes, you can always present extenuating circumstances, and I would give them as much information as possible up front. Otherwise if I were them I would be saying “why didn’t you tell us all this to begin with?”.
Okay, so, just to give other “waiters” hope. I want to share that I have been ACCEPTED!!! I sent in my EA app before the 15th, (the 9th) of . I have great test scores, I am a “leader” in my school and community, I also have some rather unusual EC’s that not a ton of High School applicants have, BUT I have an “average” GPA. I go to a competitive school and take AP classes and score well on AP exams. I am so happy that I have been accepted to Tulane and I think it takes all types of students to make up a class, not just “perfect” students.
@nycapp Congratulations! When did you hear?
