^ why is that? It just seems like an odd way of doing it. Is there a method to the madness?
Don’t mean that in a critical way, just from the outside it looks somewhat chaotic.
I was deferred EA and have not heard back yet. I am considering flying down to visit NOLA over spring break in a couple weeks (partially just for vacation and also to tour Tulane) I guess I’m wondering if it’s worth letting my admission’s counselor know that I’m hoping to visit despite being uncertain regarding my actual acceptance to Tulane or not/if that would help solidify my seriousness as a candidate if that makes sense?
Absolutely let them know you will be taking the campus tour and looking around. Play it up as showing your interest. That is highly related to their decision.
Tulane is not rolling admissions, and the applications are initially given to the admissions person responsible for that area. Like any human endeavor, a difference in performance will now exist. I don’t necessarily mean quality or efficiency, but their travel schedules will differ, their approach to how they proceed will differ, etc. At this stage most decisions will come out about the same time towards the end of March, like a lot of schools do it. So it is rather a moot point.
@fallenchemist Didn’t you say earlier that a lot of denials were given out at the end of March? So if an applicant hasn’t heard back, is it less likely that he or she will get in? Would you say that most people who are and will be accepted have already received the acceptance notification?
Yes, no, no. Just because they wait until the end to send out all the denials and wait list notices doesn’t mean there are not a lot of acceptances as well. Quite a few people that are freshmen at Tulane now got their acceptance after March 25.
We have visited several colleges that my daughter has been accepted to, but she likes Tulane the best. We also plan to go for Spring Break and she will take an official tour ( believe it or not …we have never done this ). I was thinking of suggesting she write to her admissions officer after the tour to confirm her desire to go to Tulane and highlight reasons that were not mentioned in her essay. Kids mature at different rates and my daughter has a much more mature perspective than she did when she wrote her essay, especially after the experience of touring so many colleges. What do you think?
Better yet - schedule a meeting with her admissions officer when you are on campus!
I agree with @marcymar. She should e-mail her Admissions rep letting her know what dates she will be on campus and touring and ask for time to meet in person before or after the tour.
I think most spring breaks are in April, after decisions have been sent out.
@TUfamily, I would absolutely recommend that your daughter send a letter of continued interest. It doesn’t have to be long, definitely under a page since admissions counselors are very busy this time of year. A letter could only help her chances.
I would suggest @TUfamily that your daughter send that letter to her adminisions rep ASAP. It could tilt the interest factor in her favor!
I received an acceptance letter two weeks ago. I hadn’t been checking my online portal so it was definitely a surprise to see it in the mail!

Lack of reports makes me wonder if these are lumped in with the rest of the financial package and students may not be notified specifically when they receive one.
For the students that have already been accepted - Did you receive an email or notification on gibson that you would get an admissions decision on XXX date or was the admissions decision right in the email/notification without any warning?
@adamfromiowa I had no warning. My acceptance was on Gibson.
Same and then snail mail 10+ days later.
Daughter was deferred early action and received Tulane acceptance letter today. Received the Premier Scholars Award ($30K/Yr) and was also invited into the Honors College. 33 ACT, 3.87 UW GPA, 7 AP classes and a lot of community service.
Congratulations! Just to ensure there is no confusion, Tulane does not have a separate Honors College. It is an Honors Program that is designed to appeal to those students that are most interested in focusing more on academics than most students, even students at the most competitive admissions schools. You can read more about it here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/tulane-university/1863312-more-changes-to-the-honors-program-and-the-retirement-of-tulane-scholars-in-name-only-p1.html
