Yeah, there is a ton of message switching starting about now. No idea if it really means anything until you get the decision. Until then, I would ignore it.
D received her acceptance letter on Saturday, which included notice of a Presidential ($32k/yr.) merit scholarship. She had been deferred EA but after completing a planned campus visit, she promptly received an acceptance. Very exciting!
33 ACT, 3.99 UW GPA
Congrats! How did she like the visit?
@fallenchemist She really liked the campus tour and we all had a great time visiting NO. What a great place to go to school. Can I have a do over for my college years?
@eldixon Do you think it may be because you have taken a low number of AP courses? No disrespect intended but it could make admissions counselors question the difficulty of your course load and whether or not you’re challenging yourself. The rest of your app looks strong so that could be it. Good luck and hopefully you’re accepted in the RD pool!
@eldixon -Sorry you didn’t get good news from Tulane. You are clearly a strong applicant to many colleges.
What sort of interest did you show Tulane before or just after applying … e.g., did you visit campus and attend an on-campus info session and take a tour? Did you attend a Tulane program near your home? Have you corresponded with your regional rep? etc.?
Also, you say that you probably won’t attend Tulane now if you’re admitted. Is that because you feel unappreciated by Tulane (which is understandable) or is it because there are other colleges that you liked better all along that have already said yes or are likely to?
I’m nervous that I haven’t gotten my decision yet. It feels like December all over again when I was deferred. These are my stats:
ACT: 32
GPA UW: 3.9
GPA W: 4.7
lots of AP’s all with 4’s and 5’s on the tests
good recs
internship with political campaign and school clubs, sports, etc.
Do I still have a chance? Tulane is my top choice and I have emailed my admissions counselor saying how much I want to go to Tulane.
Hang in there hart0122. Think positive
Got deferred back in December and have still been waiting for a response
After my deferral I sent in 1st semester grades and emailed my admissions counselor stating my continued interest. I also went to a general admissions session in my area a while ago but I haven’t been able to go down for an official campus tour. I’m not sure how else to display my interest but I’m hoping for the best.
@ronniecat I’m in the same boat as you! This waiting around is so hard.
@hart0122 and @ronniecat. i’m thinking you will hear good news soon! may the odds be ever in your favor
@hart0122 & @ronniecat I applied RD with 31 ACT and 4.0 and still have not heard back as well. The same goes for one of my online friends who has similar stats. I bet very few regular decision applicants (who have not applied early action) have heard back.
Be so proud of your accomplishments and know that you are headed for great things. Stay positive !!
Thank you everyone
@hart0122 @emleigh @adamfromiowa . I’ll definitely be trying to stay hopeful still no matter what happens. and truth be told I’m still a little frazzled because I thought I’d be hearing from WashU yesterday then the decisions didn’t come out lol
I applied RD with 2210/4.9 GPA and have not heard back as well. I did not visit because I live like 8 hours away, and I did not reach out to my admissions counselor. However, I did send in a music supplement and explained that I would love to join their orchestra and would love to take private lessons. Does that count as showing interest or whatever?
To be honest, it would have been a good idea to have a personal communication with your admissions person. If you can make a good case that Tulane is a top choice and why, you still should. I just wonder if at this time of year there is always the thought that you got turned down by other top choices. Probably not yet, because most of the highly selective schools have not released RD results yet. But the clock is ticking.
@fallenchemist I just email them with basically a few paragraphs detailing why I love Tulane? Do they actually read that stuff? I would think that they’d write it off as brown-nosing. And I actually have only heard back from my one and only safety school, lol
@violintigress - they most definitely read this and appreciate it, at least at Tulane. My daughter applied EA and she first found out she was accepted by a nice email from her admissions counselor, who she had emailed just to introduce herself and talk about why Tulane was her first choice right after she applied. I think it can only help and not hurt.
Oh yes, they absolutely read them. Now it is up to you to be convincing as to your sincerity. I am sure many of them sound like they are auto-mailings of some sort, messages that were probably sent to many schools with minimal changes. In fact, every admissions person has their favorite story about the email to School X that describes in effusive language how much that student wants to attend School Y.
But if you really want Tulane over WUSTL or Rice or Miami etc. there must be a reason/reasons. You must know something about Tulane that makes that the case. I am not saying you should compare Tulane to your other choices that directly, but I am saying you should make it personal and be clear as to why you would choose Tulane if you got into every school to which you applied.
@fallenchemist do you think emailing today or tomorrow would be seen as way too late?
