ADMISSION DECISIONS FALL 2016 (CLASS OF 2020)

@violintigress

No, I don’t think it would be. But I wouldn’t let it go past that.

I just took a look at my gibson and it says I was admitted. I’m still kind of scared it’s not true because a lot of you guys have been saying the portal is acting up. Gosh I really really hope it’s true.

@Mueenah

It has never acted up by posting false admission results. Congratulations! Were you deferred or RD?

Congrats @Mueenah - sure it is true if that’s what you’re seeing!

@fallenchemist RD. I hope so. Thank you

@myjanda Thank you

Just got into Tulane with a founder’s scholarship (100k total) guys :slight_smile:

I’m an International student and Tulane is a safety school for me but I’m just super happy!
Everyone at my home got emotional over it and I’m a bit relieved cuz I was beginning to wonder if I atleast had the capacity to get into even a single school.

For my extracurriculars, you can check out one of my chance me threads and also, text me if you wanna read my essays.
I’ve been lurking on this thread for a while and you guys are awesome! I hope you all get in :slight_smile:

Good luck everyone.

Well it didn’t change this morning so I guess I did get in.
@rahuilmars231 congratulations
SAT I:2020
SAT II: Math 710 and biology 680
I guess my essay and extracurricular really helped.

My son saw his acceptance today online - applied RD on last day. He is thrilled, but we are hoping for merit aid - they said to look for a letter with additional information in a few days. Did others hear about Merit money on the website or is it always by letter? Just curious. Thank you.

@stellava from what I’ve heard from everyone on the forum, the merit awards consistently are sent in the mail. I got my mailed letter (w/the Founders Scholarship @ 25k) a little over a week after being accepted online. Congratulations to your son!

@stellava

That is correct, merit awards are announced by hard copy mail only. Although in this case, if your financial aid tab has been updated, it might show a merit award if there was one. If it isn’t there, that might not mean anything other than it hasn’t been updated yet.

Thank you!

Admitted today!!! Deferred EA but received the acceptance this afternoon.
2080 SAT
roughly 3.4 GPA
hoping for some sort of merit scholarship.

  1. If a student applied and did nothing else, will that hurt the chances? Seeing from this thread, it appears student need to reach out to counselor or admission staff and express why they are interested in Tulane?
  2. Do Tulane give full tuition and how many students get full T?
  3. Is there any particular order they process? It appeared so random.

My D is interested in Tulane in particular about the programs related to pre-med which supports under-served population and has decent GPA and test scores and ECs. But as of now, she got admission and regents scholarship in U of California Santa Barbara and being in state it will cost only $8k/yr. So wondering if Tulane will be any way close to that in providing merit aid? We have not received any communication from Tulane so far and the portal has no updates.

@GoldenRock

  1. It is important that a student do a good job on the Why Tulane essay and it really helps to show more interest, such as attending a local Tulane presentation and/or reaching out to your admissions person. Obviously visiting campus is a plus, but they don't expect that.
  2. Tulane has 125 full tuition scholarships, with 7 of these upgraded to full ride (5 Stamps and 2 Hainkel, the latter for Louisiana residents only). These require separate applications, and have already been awarded for this year's applicants. It is a shame if she did not apply for those scholarships. Based on her stats that you posted elsewhere, she would have been in the running for sure. Although they are very competitive and hundreds of students with similar strong stats do not win.
  3. It is pretty random.

It seems very likely to me that there will be a huge gap between the cost of attending Tulane versus UCSB. The only way that is possibly not true is if you are low income and submitted all the need based aid forms to Tulane.

I want to thank fallenchemist for ALL of the great information over the last several months. My daughter was recently accepted after being deferred; like many other students, her grades, accomplishments and overall package is very competitive. Given that Tulane is a top, top choice, the deferral was a tough pill to swallow. We are planning a visit in early April. Again, thank you fallenchemist! Your posts are always very helpful.

It is always my pleasure, @birdman66. Knowing that I have been of some small measure of assistance is gratifying.

@fallenchemist Thanks a lot for your input. Echo the same. Words can not describe, how thankful and blessed we are because of unsung hero like you, roentgn. You are all do dedicated and put in so much efforts. Thanks again.

We did not apply FAFSA and relying on merit aid. Unfortunately, we did not know about Tulane until the dates have passed for applying certain scholarship. But still she applied because of the programs where Tulane involved like sending students to Service corps etc., Since we are in west coast, visiting colleges we did not do at all. Let me wait until we get to know the status from Tulane and aid details and will get back to this forum to get any input. Even if she does not get full T, if they give some amount (like $30k or so), I can support her. Let us see how it is going to turn out.

@GoldenRock

Obviously I am in no position to promise or guarantee anything, but IF $32,000 per year in merit aid, plus any need aid that you might qualify for in addition to that, would put her in a position to attend Tulane, then she should contact her admissions person and make that clear immediately. In fact, I wouldn’t even shy away from mentioning the merit award, because she certainly seems to qualify for either that amount or the next one down from that, which is still $30,000/year. Of course I cannot see her entire file, nor do I know where Tulane stands with the composition of the incoming class at this stage. But I can tell you that absent any demonstration of interest which gives them a strong feel for what decision she might make if things fall right, Tulane tends to wait list students like your D, exactly because they haven’t given any indication they would attend if made an offer.

@fallenchemist
We are also in the same situation as @GoldenRock where we don’t qualify for need based aid but can’t afford full tuition so are relying on merit aid/planning on attending our state university. My D has applied RD with a ACT of 34 and GPA of @3.65 (may actually be a bit higher with a definite upward trend). She did visit and wrote the why Tulane essay. Should she contact them now to let them know her strong interest or just wait on the decision?
