@JLKee she received her admissions letter about 5 weeks ago. I called last week and they said there was nothing on her account yet for scholarships. I kept watching as they came out in batches and I feel like she would have received it by now (just the buckeye, I know her act wasn’t high enough for others). It’s getting old for her checking the mail everyday. Maybe I’ll call next week.
I am an in-state transfer applicant from an Ohio University Regional Campus, I am a freshman so I am only applying with
16 completed credit hours (including Calculus if it helps) I have a 3.44 College GPA, a 4.1 weighted high school GPA (3.65 unweighted) and a 26 on my ACT. I have a professor that teaches at both my OU branch and at Ohio State and I am considering asking her to write a letter of recommendation as well although it is not required. Do I have a good chance of getting in?
??
We visited and went to Buckeye bound yesterday - was really really good. I highly recommend if you can make it.
I was impressed with the people (both students, advisors, and teachers). The campus was huge but once you walk around it feels really enclosed. We got to check out a hockey game in our OSU gear. The student activity options including travel abroad opportunities seemed exceptional. The surrounding are had a ton of cool restaurants and a good vibe. The “short north” for dinner was super trendy and very lively - including “buckeye donuts”!
We still have a ton of schools we are waiting on and we are also visiting PSU but right now - this is tops - check it out if you can.
@Nymommy123 My husband and daughter are on their way to Columbus right now. I wish she could have made the event on Saturday but there was a school dance on Friday night, and we’re a plane ride away (we’re in MA). Unfortunately, we couldn’t make any of the scheduled dates work, so she’s just going to a “regular” admitted student visit and the residence hall open house tomorrow. I hope it is at least half as good as the one on Saturday. Sounds like that was a worthwhile visit. H and D were wondering about where to eat tonight. Where is “short north”?
Short North is just south of campus. It’s a trendy little area that kind of separates campus from downtown Columbus.
Thanks @bhs1978 I’ll pass it along to H.
We went to Melt last night (fun place) - you may have to wait…Friday night we went to Paulie Gee’s - if you like Neopolitan pizza /Wine - so good. Also people recommended Forno.
A former Alum recommended these spots:
- Wolfs Ridge Brewery
- Watershed Kitchen and Bar
- Due Amici
- Basi Italia
- G Michaels Bistro (German Village)
- The Pearl
- Veritas Tavern
- Hyde Park Grille
- Katzingers Deli (For Lunch)
- Northstar Cafe (For Breakfast)
I saw in the post that some applicants who were deferred on 1/31/18 had heard back. I was deferred 1/18/18, but I applied as an engineering major, computer science, and I was wondering if anyone else who was deferred around that time with an engineering major has heard back yet. I know I’ll hear back soon I’m just so nervous!
@Nymommy123 Congrats! Just wondering if you have the future dates for “buckeye-bound”? My son is still waiting to hear and I don’t think we are able to access those dates until accepted. I was hoping to know when the upcoming admitted days were since my son is starting his lacrosse season this week and weekends are going to busy!! Thank you!!
Agree! Buckeye Bound basically sealed the deal for our son! Engineering presentation and the info on Columbus along with the session on ways to be involved, all were phenomenal. Highly recommend venturing to north side of campus too, as any tours keep you south and central on campus. Newer buildings and facilities there too.
They do an amazing job of making a large campus feel like a small community. Opportunities abound in Columbus!
We took our son to a campus tour in October, which lasted about 3 hours if I remember correctly. Saw dorm room, RPAC, etc. Then we took a separate tour of Fisher for another 2 hours. For those who have attended Buckeye Bound, is there any good reason to attend BB at this point?
I was deferred in the final wave of EA (I forget the date). I have a 32 super score on the ACT and a bunch of extra curriculars. I emailed the rep a letter about how much I enjoyed OSU when I visited and she replied a very kind response but mentioned they don’t consider interest. I have had a horrible college process so far, rejected from my dream school and my second choice and deferred from all my targets. It has been ROUGH. Fingers crossed that I get in, it will make all the suffering worth it.
regarding my above post, what I meant to say at the end was whether there’s any reason for my son to attend Buckeye Bound given that he’s already been on a day long tour.
You should be good to skip. BB started with a student talking about his experience, followed by a 1.5 hour campus tour (classroom, Rec center, library, dorm, etc.). Then they offered breakouts for 1 hour each. Essentially combination of fairs for each school, their program for undecided majors, more tours, study abroad, etc.
I think what is a good compliment is checking out the area and catching a game.
@bernzzz22 ? I am so sorry. I will be praying that you hear some great news very soon! Are you in state? My OOS (NY) son was deferred in the last wave as well. It has seemed like a lifetime that we’ve been waiting too b/c he applied EA back in October. At this point we just want an answer ?..hang in there! Your stats seem great and I’m sure it’s just a matter of time!
I was deferred in the last wave as well and am still waiting.
Do any or the already accepted students know the dates of buckeye bound? Is that considered OSU’s accepted student day? Still waiting to hear but trying to plan ahead for travel purposes…, thank you!!
@kesnyder5 the last Buckeye Bound date is Friday March 29. According to an email my daughter received a couple months ago it’s more to convince undecided admitted students why they should attend. OSU is no doubt my D’s first choice but we still attended this past Saturday and the breakout sessions were helpful. There are definitely other events though that will be going on for admitted students. Sorry I don’t have those details.
@bernzzz22 So sorry this process has been difficult and disappointing. The whole college application process is stressful and sometimes defeating – there are many factors you can’t control. Hang in there. Something will work out. Please keep us posted. Good luck!
